One for the election anoraks

For all the hopeless psephologists out there. Here’s a website, Elections Ireland, which has recorded election results at most levels in recent years, north and south. The site is also being updated regularly as candidates are selected by all parties in the countdown to next year’s much anticipated Leinster House elections.

Dublin Central is an interesting one.

“Dublin Central is an interesting one.”. It sure is and I’m in the thick of it. It’s hard not to see Bertie and Mary-Lou getting in (probably on the first count) but after that it’s take any two from 6.

The one thing lacking is the analysis Nick Whyte’s site offers of transposing council results over to the Westminster boundaries. Although it does offer what Nick Whyte’s site lacks – shows you transfers.

In Dublin Central surely all Fianna Fail needs to do is manage its vote, with nearly two full quotas and the split between all the other parties. They are leaking far too many transfers. Although from my time shadowing a Fianna Fail campaign I know this is far easier said than done.

Vote management will be difficult as Bertie will get a big vote and probably well over a quota which would leave the other two FF with around half a quota if even. So where do they then get transfers from? I think real possibility that this is a FF loss.

    Fair_Deal,
Bertie doesn’t appear to do vote management, which is a “problem” for the party in the constituency. The man seems to want two quotas all for himself.

Thats right I forgot the PD HQ is in Dublin Central.

Running THREE!?! Throwing away the second seat

  • Brian Boru

Dr.Dermot Fitzpatrick’s seat will definitely go to Mary Lou. BTW that site doesn’t even have the 2002 results which is unfortunate.

Click on the “Count Details” tab.

Regarding Dublin Central, you have to remember that a huge number of those that vote for Bertie are not natural FFers. He gets an enormous personal vote and once these people have given him their #1, they revert to their party of choice.

It’s going to be all but impossible for Bertie to bring in a running mate unlesss they do a geographic carve-up of the constituency like they did in 1997.

“Thats right I forgot the PD HQ is in Dublin Central. ” No, PD HQ is in South Frederick St. which is in Dublin South Central. Unfortunatly the PDs haven’t run a candidate in Dublin Central for many elections, much to my chagrin.

You could be a prospective candidate in the making Keith M, however I don’t fancy your chances.
