DublinRiots.com

A new site, or a graffitti wall? Someone has grabbed the address, the rest is largely pending. Whoever has it is clearly a Slugger reader, so if it gets any further then let us know.

  • Obviously it isn’t what is meant by cherishing all the children of the nation equally. It’s not very clever of “realist” to be honest, one could easliy find pictures of orangemen rioting against the PSNI or RUC at a banned parade and ask if that is what is meant by “civil and religious liberty”.

If all you can do is associate the actions of a dissaffected tiny minority with supposed wishes of the majority then I’m afraid you will never be able to see a logical or reasoned argument.

Frankly I doubt very much if “realist” would be queueing up to reunite the country even if the march had gone by without any incident whatsover.

  • Woops!

Just realised my error in attributing the site to Realist, my apologies. However my criticism stands…

  • starbuck

a simple whois reveals that the owner of DublinRiots.com is Scott Rutherford who is also involved with East Bank Protestant Boys Flute Bank in Derry.

Clearly Scott was all for a 32 county state right up until the riot happened.

Sorry to see that some fools put you off.

    This is a little disturbing.

The quote is mine, but I have absolutely nothing to do with this site. This is the first I have seen or heard of it.

I rather resent anyone using my comments to further their own agenda, and completely disassociate myself from this.

PopeBuckfastXVI should not make any presumptions either on my desire or otherwise for a UI…that depends on many factors.

  • TAFKABO

one could easliy find pictures of orangemen rioting against the PSNI or RUC at a banned parade and ask if that is what is meant by “civil and religious liberty”.

And it would be a perfectly valid question.

  • Apologies again Realist… I meant my criticism stands against the creator of the site, and usurption of your quote.

Tafkabo, it would not be valid if it were used in a method inferring that it is representative of majority Unionist sentiment.

  • Stephen Copeland

    Realist,

I rather resent anyone using my comments to further their own agenda, and completely disassociate myself from this.

If you want to complain to him personally, here’s his info (public domain, guys, don’t get excited!):

Public Domain or not, Stephen, I think it’s better not to post such contact information here – moderator

  • Realist

“Apologies again Realist… I meant my criticism stands against the creator of the site, and usurption of your quote.”

    No problems PopeBuckfastXVI.

Perhaps the site creator might want to utilise this quote too.

It’s about time the Loyal Orders and their supporters, including those in Loyalist Bands, realised that scenes like those witnessed surrounding the Whiterock Parade last year were equally as abhorent as those witnessed in Dublin.

  • urquhart

Whatever site was there seems to have disappeared. Another example of the Sluuger Factor at work??

  • Stephen Copeland

Public Domain or not, Stephen, I think it’s better not to post such contact information here – moderator

That is a bit unnecessarily censorious of you, Mick. The info is easily available to anyone with a PC and an internet connection … i.e. everyone who reads or comments here!

Nonetheless, you’re the dictator of your own little playground.

Realist (and anyone else): if you want Mr Rutherford’s contact info, e-mail me.

  • Keith

some people have too much time on their hands in my opinion… but more publicity for slugger…never a bad thing.

  • Mr Angry

Looks as though things aren’t going quite as smoothly as Scott might have anticipated.

  • Brian Boru

No it isn’t the true face of Irish Republicanism. I am not a SF’er but I do not believe the 1,000 rioters represent true republicanism. After Northern Catholics were tarred with the IRA brush and consequently excluded from govt during 1920-72, now its our turn down here to be tarred. At least we run our own affairs though and cannot be similarly excluded! 🙂

    I look forward to whiterockriots.com. 😉

“I am not a SF’er but I do not believe the 1,000 rioters represent true republicanism.”

    Brian Boru

Brian – I know the riot has been done to death and most of us have grown weary of them but there can’t have been more than about 30-50 Hardcore rioters and about another 150 who were firing missiles from the safety of the crowd.

Frank McNally in last Saturdays Irish Times commented on the annual intelligence failure in which it will be reported that 500,000 people attended Dublin’s St Patrick’s Day parade when in reality it is about 150,000 max.

Festival organisers are now predicting 700,000 for this years parade *rolls eyes*

  • Betty Boo

    Starbuck,

Have you been at last years St. Patrick’s Day Parade?

  • starbuck

“Have you been at last years St. Patrick’s Day Parade? ”

Yes ! – my parade route is usually to tramp from O’Donohues pub in Baggot Street to Mulligans of Poolbeg St and then over to Boars Head where I can finally get a seat and finish up in the Cobblestone when the Shamrock gets well and truly drowned.

    more from the article

“My correspondent’s argument was that the parade ran for 1.5 miles through two lines of onlookers, giving a “crowd length” of three miles. This allowed for 7,500 people per single row of observers, calculated at a width of two feet each, shoulder to shoulder. Assuming 10 rows deep, which is pushing it, and adding the capacity of lamp-posts, etc, a crowd-counter’s chances of reaching even 100,000 would be about as good as the chances of an average-sized parade observer, 10 rows back and without a ladder, seeing a majorette’s ankles.”

“If anything, the trend towards obesity should cause the parade estimate to be revised downwards, since many of us are now more than two feet wide. In fact, Irish people are getting bigger at the very time that the trees in O’Connell Street – a parade vantage point – are shrinking”

  • Stephen, why would anyone need to contact you to get my details, as you say the information is freely available. If anyone wants to contact me they’re more than welcome to email me directly.

The site has never gone off because of anything done on this site and since you seem so intrested in it I’ll make a point of letting you know when I put something more on it.

btw, I love the way some of you are able to judge me so quickly when so far the site only contains a picture and quote from someone else.

  • Keith

so scott, what’s the point of the site?

  • you will find out when I put it online.

  • Slugger O’Toole Admin

God Stephen, did you really say this:

“Nonetheless, you’re the dictator of your own little playground.”
