Newton Emerson picked up a story line that many others missed last week:
“An Audit Office report has slammed Invest NI and its small-business predecessor Ledu for failing to address significant conflicts of interest. All involved deny any wrongdoing, but the following facts are beyond dispute. The same person – businesswoman Teresa Townsley – was able to chair the board of Ledu, join the board of a trust it funded, run a private firm that was awarded the trust’s accounts without tendering, subsidise two firms linked to her husband via the trust and sit on the board of Invest NI while it investigated the trust. Clearly, it would be hard to find a more trust-worthy person”.
