The Saturday View on RTE was good value today [sound file only]. The beginning is all about the Donaldson affair, but the real meat is in the second part [about 23 mins in], when a discussion about Minister McDowell kicks in. Dick Roche, Jim O’Keefe, Con Lucey, Ivan Bacik (Labour), and Brendan Keenan (Irish editor, Irish Independent) have plenty to say. O’Keefe makes an interesting distinction between the security and the authority of the State. Keenan thinks that there is a legal dynamic abroad against disclosure. Bacik thinks the Minister has overstepped mark: which Keenan tacitly accepts but asks whether these issues might have some other (journalistic) points of issue.
