Rumsfeld for the chop?

No, not our own witty voice from the dark side – Darth – but President George Bush’s right hand man, Don. Andrew Sullivan on the latest gossip from inside the Washington Beltway.

  • 6countyprod

Rummy going, Cheney sidelined, Lieberman taking over.

Wishful thinking, although Lieberman is one of the most honest and realistic Democrats.

  • spartacus

Lieberman an honest and realistic Democrat? Harldy. An almost brainless DLC hack bought and paid for by the Israeli lobbby. Six of one; half dozen of another so far as these three are concerned.

  • Lieberman is worthless. Perhaps he isn’t THAT bad on many issues, but his stance on Iraq is to parrot Bush’s talking points. He’ll show his loyalty to the Dems by taking the Defense position, thus allowing a Republican appoint his successor in the Senate. Thanks Joe! I wish Gore never gave you your name recognition.

  • Lieberman was offered Bolton’s job at the UN by the Chimperor.

He’s AIPAC. As for Democrats, they’re just war mongers too.

  • 6countyprod

No matter when he goes, Rummy will leave a lasting positive legacy at the Pentagon.

He’s an Old Man in a Hurry

    Irish in America,

Is that the Gore that created the internet? What is that wonderful genius up to these days? Still counting votes in Florida?

    What a dork!

  • Lieberman would be terrible…and not as entertaining…

“Death has a tendency to encourage a depressing view of war.”

    “I don’t do quagmires.”

“There’s another way to phrase that and that is that the absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. It is basically saying the same thing in a different way. Simply because you do not have evidence that something does exist does not mean that you have evidence that it doesn’t exist.”

  • Yours, etc.

“Latest gossip”? Jeez, folks. Get a grip. That rumor started last winter.

  • As someone is is habitually prejudiced in favour of gurning outside the provincial box, even I have to admit – just *how* does the Don’s fate fall under the aegis of the estimable Slugger?

  • KR,

You ask: just *how* does the Don’s fate fall under the aegis of the estimable Slugger?

Answer: Everything falls under the aegis of the USofA, even Slugger.

If you were real, you would know that.

´´Now I am become death, destroyer of worlds´´
Oppenheimer is supposed to have said that in distress after an atomic bomb test.
I can imagine Rumsfeld saying it too, but with him rubbing his hands in glee and with a smirk on his face.
I hope the law of karma DOES exist…

  • spartacus

‘a lasting positive legacy at the Pentagon’?

Bet you can’t find two US generals who would agree with you. History will show, I am sure, that much of the logistical irresponsibility for the debacle that Iraq has become can be laid at Rumsfeld’s door. Even among the willfully blind who continue to support the war, the consensus is that Rumsfeld’s self-promoted ‘grand strategy’ has been a complete disaster, beginning to end…if there is one.

If you read the article above you will find some generals and admirals who think a lot of him.

In the post cold war era, with bloated and duplicated services budgets, many generals (and admirals) have had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.

History will show that, despite some hiccups along the way, Rummy’s Revolution at the Pentagon will have produced a leaner, meaner and more efficient US military machine.

  • spartacus

fiddling while rome burns, i see. get your neck out of the sand and have a good look around you. ‘hiccpus’??? a massive disaster, collosal misjudment and astounding failure at every single step along the way, with serious blowback for many, many years to come. fan mail from the in-house neo-con rag won’t cut it i’m afraid.

spartacus, you are so pessimistic, negative, defeatist, despondent, etc, etc, etc. So unlike your nom de plume.

Maybe you should think of changing it to Kerry or Dean or Pelosi (sp?).

Chin up man (or woman). It’s not all lost yet. Why, even the Ba’athists are offering to help protect the polling stations from al qaeda attacks. Patience, my dear friend!

Good news? Not for Bush-haters. I wonder if the NYT will even report it.

Brother Donald will survive the pigmies who seek to bring him down. I predict 2008 as armageddon- Don versus Hillary, and a win for the wizened wizard

  • With the fortunate coincidence for the GOP that we have such a – cough – wealth of Veepish talent too.
