The latest Life and Times Survey has come to my notice through ATW and Everything Ulster. Although a lot of the interesting material is around the desireability or otherwise of a Truth Commission (some lukewarm support but there’s also scepticism over it’s potential outcomes) these two blogs focus on the unpopularity a United Ireland. However, it’s clear also that there’s less aggressive opposition to either of the zero sum options than in the past:In 2001, the proportion of people who could not tolerate a vote for an all island state was 18%. Whilst those who could not tolerate there never being such a state was 4%. In 2004, the proportions drop to 11% and 2% respectively.
It seems the heat is slowly draining from the constitutional issue?
