Lamp posts here are festooned with an array of posters of all shapes and sizes. And they are having an effect, even on the very young. One proud grandmother told Slugger about three year old Lucy who calls out the candidates names as she passes them: Naomi Long, Gerry Kelly, Reg Empey, and David Olderdice. “And there’s Peter Robinson – sure he’s everywhere!”
We’re starting our own collection of posters. If you have a digital camera and have spotted some of your own, send us them with a short description to me at: mick[at]gmail[dot]com! And we’ll add yours to our growing collection!!
A slightly inhuman presence that bans bad comments and works late at night to remove the wrinkles in Slugger’s technical carpet. You will need to know about the comments policy to stay off the fightin’ side of me and there is a bit of background about me here. You can email me using this spam-proof link if you really need to, and Slugger is @sluggerotoole on Twitter. But above all, remember, Play the ball and not the man.
I have a theory that posters are the political equivalent of dogs peeing on a lamp post. Or (non working) class Loyalists wasting their hard earned drug money to buy UDA flags all over the place. I wonder if they have any flying in Bolton? No, they probably need the drug dough for new furniture.

I’m over the water in pagan England and haven’t seen a single poster yet. There’s a few billboards and that’s about it. It doesn’t look anything like an election on the ground but the print and broadcast media are doing their bit. I assume it’s because posters don’t work.
DUP, Greens and Alliance ? There’s a frightening combination 🙂 In my neck of the woods I have seen one UUP poster. First up were loads of SDLP posters, but within a couple of days they had somehow slipped down the poles ( works on several levels) and SF posters appeared above them 😉 The SF ones are simpler and work better. The SDLP ones look amateurish and fussy.
Well Dav, get you digital out and send us a few snaps! And it doesn’t have to be just posters. Anything election related will do!
I’ll see if I can get my hands on one 🙂
I’m a bit of a technophobe.
p.s. noted that you had to go and include an anti-smoking sign!
A have noticed a few posters still up from the last election
There are workers party posters in corporation street in Belfast which been there for a couple of years
I must check and see if Martin Smyth’s election poster is still up in Ashley Drive from the 2001 poll.
A few weeks ago, only his eyes were left unfaded, and he looked rather scary, kinda like that ‘Demon-eyes’ poster of Blair the Tories tried a few years back.
Hoots, any chance of a pic of them?
I think the DUP still have November 03 posters up on Botanic avenue. There’s also bound to be a huge amount of Jim Allister posters lying in a warehouse somewhere after the Union Jack embarrasment last year. The SDLP seem to recycled some of Alasdair McDonnell’s posters from 03.
If you look like Peter Weir in his posters you wont win a beauty contest let alone an election.
Nothing beats the SDLP green on the billboard posters
God almighty,who picked this colour
Mick
Will try to get a pic tomorrow
Please excuse the typo errors on previous post
Arthur,
I think the good people of North Down will not be so naive as to choose their next MP on physical looks as you are suggesting.
I’m not sure if Peter Weir has ever won a beauty contest but he is looking increasingly likly to win this election!

Arthur:
It seems that the story has taken some ‘weird’ turns before it reached you in Enniskillen … don’t expect anything other than a second victory for Sylvia Hermon in North Down.
Mick:
Nice to see the poster with the children again – since I’m the proud father of two of them!
That first remark was, of course, intended for Enniskillen DUP – sorry Arthur!
