Irish Timeline

The Onion has put up a useful timeline of Irish history for the uninitiated as part of its St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

If you’d like to see the full thing! 😉

  • Young Irelander

The loss of the giant Irish panda was a real tragedy alright.

  • maca

Educational, interesting, humorous and offensive all in one jpg. Nice.

Seamus, link doesn’t work. If you view it in Firefox you can see the full thing albeit with ‘the frowned upon in the web design community’ side-scrolling. IE not, for some reason [cos it’s a shite browser].

  • Circles

Don’t worry Young Irelander – it hasn’t really gone away you know.
    Nothing really does in Ireland.

The link still works for me, Maca!?! But I’m special. My favourite is…

2002 – Irish American Author, Frank McCourt publishes third memoir, Abusive Cousins I Forgot To Mention.

  • Brian Boru

    Works in Netscape fine

    Great stuff.

Anti-Irish racism is alive and well in America. It’s just always in slap-on-the-back form and takes on a more public form on March 17.

Maybe since Bertie and the gang will get the welcome mat this year, they will broach the subject in the halls of power. Or will they just swap shamrock and bring gifts of waterford glass from poland again.

  • George

    Malachy,
don’t underestimate the Irish ability for self-deprecation.

  • ricardo

Loved the bit about ‘the hilariously titled Anglo Irish agreement’

  • Malachy

don’t underestimate the Irish ability for self-deprecation.

This ability is wonderful in Ireland. It’s not so useful in other countries.

    Funny shit LOL

  • Richard Delevan

“Anti-Irish racism is alive and well in America. It’s just always in slap-on-the-back form and takes on a more public form on March 17.”

Wow – the plastic paddies are really out in force this week, aren’t they? That anti-Irish racism…please, do tell. That be the Conan O’Brien-written anti-Irish bits in the Simpsons? Or are such things unwatchable for people too busy listening to WBAI/Radio Free Eireann while downing Jameson (no Bushmills, please, that’s prod whiskey) and pledging your life to the heroic struggle you’ll never take part in other than turning up for the table quiz in benefit of Friends of Sinn Fein?

  • SlugFest

I’m with Richard on this one. It’s funny … that’s all … no need to over-think it. Besides, if The Onion is taking a craic (coudldn’t resist) at anyone, it’s the British. Also (though begrudgingly) have to agree with the ‘plastic paddy’ thing, as I am one myself (or so they explained to me at the Celtic Bar on the Falls Road … 🙂 )
