Arrrests made in Cork over Northern Bank job

Breaking news reports that cash has been seized and four people arrested in Cork in relation to the Northern bank robbery investigation.

Meanwhile, RTE says seven people in total have been arrested, including a Sinn Fein politician and that 2 million pounds have been recovered.

“A total of seven people have been arrested as part of a Garda investigation into the activities of subversives.

The investigation is focused on money-laundering.

Four were arrested in Cork and three in Dublin. The six men and a woman are being held in various Garda stations.

The four arrested in Cork range in age from their 30s to their 60s. A Sinn Féin politician and a man who works in financial services are among them.

The three men in Dublin were arrested yesterday afternoon. $80,000 in cash was seized as part of that operation.

RTÉ News has learned that the gardaí seized more than £2m sterling in the Cork operations, which targetted funding to the Provisional IRA.

And in a separate raid, they seized £60,000 which they believe to have come from the raid on the Northern Bank.

A number of searches are still being carried out.”
