Adams not sure that IRA is in the clear

The FT, Daily Telegraph, The Scotsman, The Times of London, The Independent and The Guardian all carry the Adams’s equivocation over the bank raid story.

  • Pat Mc Larnon

Bit of a non story, it was obvious what he was saying at the time, even though he has now clarified his position. All those newspaper inches for nowt.

It certainly contrasts with the tone of his previous statement, which is still live on the Google News service.

    Pat McClarnon

Oh how comfortable it must be for the glass-eyed, unquestioning believer – don’t you think.

  • Pat Mc Larnon

    Jackeen,

I simply listened to the interview and am bamboozled that so much was read into it.

‘Glass-eyed, unquestioning believer’ take it you’ve run out of ideas.

  • Warm Storage

    Pat,

“it was obvious what he was saying at the time”.

    Which was what exactly?

  • Jacko

    Pat “the parrot” McClarion

Whatever views or thoughts I may have, and whatever their value, they are at least my own – how’s about you Pat, my little parroting friend.

  • Mick Fealty

Can we just leave out the personal stuff lads. I’ve not given out a yellow for several days, but if I have to, I will! Regardless of who may have started it!!

  • Davros

C’mon Jacko. No need to be like that. Pat deserves respect for sticking his head above the parapet when so many others have taken a powder.

  • Jacko

    Davros

If you bother or care to look back to the reference to Jackeen and the “running out of ideas” you might find that your comments are a little one-sided.
But of course I will behave myself.
Apologies to all for my part.

  • Davros

Jacko – I was taking into consideration that poor pat was being ganged up upon. It’s not as if I haven’t been harsh at times myself. But I do think people like pat and cg and henry deserve credit for fighting their corner in such difficult circumstances.

  • Jacko

I know Davros – I’m just bored today, so I thought I might wind up Pat for a laugh.

    Sorry Pat.

  • Pat Mc Larnon

Many years ago I gained employment as a draughtsman at a plant on the Airport Rd at Sydenham. After a day or so some eventually spoke and asked me my name. After telling him my surname, he asked me how to spell it. On hearing how, he was able to deduce that I was a Catholic.

Unknown to me at that time there are number of variations to my surname that are used almost exclusively by protestants, that involves Mc Lernon and Mc Clarnon. Mc Larnon is almost exclusively the Catholic variant.

Now since arriving on the site Jackeen has on almost every occasion used the spelling Mc Clarnon while addressing me, please check, you’ll find it is true. This is despite the fact my name is in full view after every post

Although quite petty, I assumed he was aware of the significance of the spelling and was using it as a wind up or perhaps even indulging in silly sectarianism. As a response I used variations of his nom de plume as a wind up.

Perhaps I was too sensitive on the issue and should have just realised the person involved could not spell properly.

    Davros,

    your honourable intervention is unnecessary.

  • Jacko

    Pat

I have been educated – had no idea about the significance of the various spellings of your name. And far less I care.
But, if you are determined to retreat at first opportunity to the comfort zone of “I’m being insulted because I’m a Catholic” – be my guest. Whatever makes you happy, I suppose it’s better than saying to yourself, “I might just be wrong”.
And if you are equally determined to fall back on the insults re. “…and should have just realised the person involved could not spell properly” – then I’m your man.
How did Room 101 go by the way. From this distance, looks like it worked okay.

  • Belfast Gonzo

Right, I know we’re all guilty of it, but can we lay off the personals.

  • Pat Mc Larnon

    Jacko,

I now accept that everytime you misspelt my name you were unaware of the significance and it was all totally innocent. Evertime.

  • Jacko

    Okay Pat McWhateveryournameis.

And I accept that it was an accidental misspelling and nothing more sinister when you typed evertime instead of everytime.

By the way, what’s the party line on the Cork thing?
Securocrats; money collected by party activists selling ballots; dirty tricks by people opposed to Sinn Fein’s electoral growth; the people arrested were out for a walk, stumbled on the money, and were just about to call the Garda; Gerry was just about to pay his tax bill, in cash; on second thoughts, Gerry really did mean what he said to that Spanish interviewer?

  • Pat Mc Larnon

    Jacko,

all I know is 2.5million has been recovered and 7 people have been arrested. I think things will become clearer in the next 48hrs or so. Although some of your own suggestions seem a bit bizarre,

  • Jacko

“Although some of your own suggestions seem a bit bizarre,”

Pat, don’t tempt me like that, there’s a good lad.
Throw the spade away, stop digging

  • Davros

Pat – I didn’t know that about the name. The only one I know if is aitch/Haitch.
