Secret Report.

Stephen Dempster claimed an exclusive in the Newsletter where he reveals that Dermott Nesbit, under the Freedom of Information Act, has obtained a copy of a report which concluded that “that employment discrimination between Protestants and Catholics no longer exists.” While the report has an obvious political significance this story surely begs the question as to why such an important finding was kept secret ?

To save the peace process, of course. Such a report would have served to further pull the rug from underneath Sinn Fein (the equality card).

Without such an important part of their mantra, they would be forced to reveal some of their more extreme policies; such as the renatiionalisation of banks.

where’s the report where’s the statistics

A secret government report has concluded that employment discrimination between Protestants and Catholics no longer exists.

Should that not read “discrimination by Protestants against Catholics” or vice-versa?

Its main conclusion is that Protestants and Catholics have a similar chance of getting jobs in Northern Ireland.

Didn’t we already know that? All you need to do is look at the Equality Commission annual reports.

  • Occasional Commenter

Does this mean that there is an equal amount of discrimination on each side?

i.e. now everybody has the dubious honour of being unable to get certain jobs?

  • idunnomeself

Oh it looks like nonsense.. no details at all

Who did the report? was it internal? to which organisation? was it external? Government is under no obligation to accept the opinions of outside organisations (and Ministers are quite free to ignore the opinions of their civil servants anyway).

Anyway as Willowfield points out the Equality Commission pointed out this in their last report. Did Dermot Nesbit just not read that? It would have saved him a lot of trouble.

What does disturb me is that the Newsletter sems to be beginning to plunge to the same levels of MOPEry as some Nationalist publications. They also waffle on about the need for confidence building im the Unionist Community.

Well you don’t do it by running baseless scare stories claiming that Prods don’t get jobs..

“A secret government report has concluded ….

    Dilettante ……

Learn from the words of the Master

    9 Feb. 1950

“I have here in my hand a list of 205, a list of names made known to the secretary of state as being members of the Communist Party and who nevertheless are still working and shaping policy in the State Department.”

    10 Feb. 1950

“I hold in my hand the names of 57 card-carrying Communists” working in the State Department. “

Now THAT is how to do it with style, Sluggiepoos.

    Party on.
