Slugger's up for a 'Satin Pajama'

satinpajama.jpg

The fistful of Euros blog is running their weblog award competition, and they’ve got Slugger down as a finalist in their UK, single country and political categories. If you want to add your vote – hurry along before it closes again. The excellent perfect.co.uk is way out in front in the UK section! Have a browse around – there’s some good stuff in there.

  • peteb

Slugger made the shortlist in three separate categories, Mick.. and we’re trailing badly in all of them.

  • Mick Fealty

Well Pete, faint heart never won fair, emm, pajama. Though apparently this fair maid has promised to publish a photograph of herself wearing them if she wins. Unfair influence on the voting public I’d say!

  • peteb

Unfair maybe.. but let’s not go down that route eh? We’re not going to be able to compete with a similar offer/threat*
    (*delete as applicable)

Instead may I commend the tried and tested method – Vote early and often! *ahem*

  • George

Slugger has just rocketed to 6.9% of the vote from 5.5% just 10 minutes ago so something must be afoot.

  • George

Now 9.2% on the UK poll, someone must be listening to you peteb…

  • maca

1st, 5th & 3rd Mick. Not bad at all at all.

  • peteb

    Sssh, george. 😉

    maca

What poll are you looking at?

  • Davros

I’m still half asleep – where do I see the babe in her jammies and who am I supposed to vote for ? I rang my MLA for instructions but he couldn’t tell me.

  • Mick Fealty

Pete, you can’t use the ‘old Ulster’ method on this one: it remembers who you were and won’t let you do it a second time. In fact none of my colleagues at River Path can vote because we all share the same IP address. That’s one vote between six!

However, we seem to be making steady progress in all of the categories. Is suspect those at the lower end are just bloggers who’ve not let their readers know about their shortlisting yet.

  • peteb

    dammit.. hmmm.. 😉

Mick, The voting list seems to have been posted on the 24th but there’s no indication of when the polls close – any ideas?

  • Davros

How does this IP thing work ? If I go onto a different machine using my usual account is that a different IP address ?

  • Emily

I will vote for Slugger, but only on the promise of Mick and Pete that they will NOT publish photos of themselves in their pajamas. Deal?

  • Mick Fealty

You’ve got my word on that Em, and (no doubt) that of my wife!

  • peteb

    Pajamas, Emily? What pajamas?

  • Mick Fealty

Stop it pete. You’re losing us votes as you type!

  • Emily

I guess I can always ask the site owner if there’s a way I can actually take my vote back

  • peteb

OK.. OK.. There will be NO photos.

  • cg

I’m sorry but I voted for the woman in the pyjamas and if she wins and doesn’t keep her end of the bargain she’s been sued for breach of contract 😉

  • Mick Fealty

Best political blog appears to be our best chance. Although it’s a tight race with five apparent contenders, the front runner isn’t so far away that it can’t be caught!

  • George

Maybe Mick could publish a picture of himself in his pyjamas if he loses, that should get the vote up….

  • Nicolas Vanbremeersch

I’m the current leader of the poll, but Slugger O’Toole is growing fast. Too fast. Need to do something with my froggie readers.
Shall I ask my wife to promise she will show herself in the pajamas (which, apparently, will come in a teddybear’s size) ?
By the way, voting is due for one week or so, as long as it works. Check http://fistfulofeuros.net/archives/001133.php
Good luck to you, and very happy to discover your blog through this contest.

  • Davros

Did Sammy’s vote go up or down after ‘those’ pictures ?

  • Mick Fealty

Nicolas, how can we beat that!

Except perchance, by employing the deterence stratagem involved in taking up George’s suggestion?

But that would be a step too far, surely!

  • Nicolas Vanbremeersch

(by leader, I meant in the “political” category.)

  • peteb

Welcome to Slugger, Nicolas, and good luck to you too.

BTW.. if “il s’agit de l’honneur de la France en Europe (tremblements de voix)” doesn’t work, nothing will! But hey, go for the photos anyway, why not?

  • Nicolas Vanbremeersch

Well, my wife doesn’t agree… I should try george suggestion for myself. This would thus turn into a “most ugly blogger’s blog”.

  • peteb

Now that’s a category we have a serious chance of winning..

  • James

“How does this IP thing work ? If I go onto a different machine using my usual account is that a different IP address ?”

Your browser sends a ton of information to the web site you log onto. You can change machines but if you still use the same ISP the number sent remains the same.

  • Davros

    Thanks James:)

  • Mick Fealty

They’ve just changed the measure from percentages to actual vote counts – just to make it a bit more tangible.

We’re now four votes shy of Nicolas’s lead in the political blog category, eleven behing perfect, and hopelessly adrift in the Single Country category!

  • peteb

    and counting, Mick

  • Robin Grant

Maybe you should just focus on the Political Blog category, not only is it within your grasp but what a prize!

Who would want to win the “Best Weblog originating from the UK?” award (or whatever) anyway…

    ;p

  • Nosemonkey

Typical… Looks like I might have a chance for a bit, and then some site with a far larger readership comes along and scuppers all my hopes… Just because you guys seem to cover a lot more stuff in a more thoughtful manner and stuff…

    Not fair!

  • maca

    Davros
“How does this IP thing work ? If I go onto a different machine using my usual account is that a different IP address ?”

    Maybe.
Individual computers can have their own IP address. But your ISP might have a block of addresses so many people might have the same address. There’s 100+ people here at work and we all have the same IP address.

    Pete
“What poll are you looking at?”
All of em where I see Slugger.

    Currently;
    • Best Weblog From the United Kingdom – 1st
    • Best Weblog Focused On A Single Country Or Region – 5th
    • Best Political Weblog – 3rd

  • maca

..oops, just realised I was reading the shaggin’ thing wrong. Should be 2nd, 2nd & 2nd.

  • Mick Fealty

Looks like we are riding for a noble second in al three categories.

  • Mick Fealty

We’ve inched ahead in one category, and cahsing hard for the lead in the other two!

  • maca

Whatever about pj’s where you really need to be is the 2005 Bloggies.

  • Mick Fealty

I did flag it up for readers to nominate us, but we didn’t make the shortlist.

  • peteb

The Guardian Newsblog has noted both the Bloggies and the Satin Pajama Awards.. and graciously mentions a few of the *ahem* more deserving nominated sites.

  • peteb

Back to percentages on the Satin Pajama Awards :

2.8% LEAD in the UK blog category

10.1% behind in the single country or region category – (currently in 2nd place)

1.9% behind in the Political blog category – (currently in 2nd place)

    Your votes are appreciated. *hint*

  • maca

I did a Davros and voted twice ;))

  • Young Irelander

OK,you have my votes and Slugger is currently leading in best UK category but why is this ‘Versac’ beating Slugger in the best political category?Sacre bleu!

  • Nicolas Vanbremeersch

This versac, at this moment, is just behind Slugger. Will check his mates for some votes. This is not going to last 😉

  • Mick Fealty

Right, the latest: Slugger has been maintaining a slight lead over Nicolas’s Versac blog in the political category. Perfect is back in front in the UK category. Still a long way adrift behind the Slovenian Glory of Carnolia.

If you’ve not already do so, get out and read and then vote. Slugger, yes please. But there are some real gems in there too, from Paris to Moscow!
