Smyth not standing, Deeny might

Martin Smyth has announced that he will not be standing for re-election in South Belfast – the DUP can barely conceal their glee at the prospect of going up against a pro-Agreement unionist. Meanwhile, in the Irish News (subs req.), the independent MLA, Kieran Deeny, is reported to have scheduled a press conference for Monday and is expected to announce his candidacy for the West Tyrone constituency.

This election is set to be very interesting, especially if Martin Cunningham throws his hat in the ring in S. Down

Don’t think the pro/anti-Agreement thing really applies anymore. The DUP has now signed up to essentially the same deal as the UUP.
