Spate of attacks on Orange Halls

RTE reports the third arson attack on an Orange Hall inside the last week. The SDLP’s Eugene McMenamin was particularly unhappy at the attack near Strabane.

    Sectarian attacks on sectarian halls!

Sectarianism and Racism are typical of the lowest form of intelligence on the planet, not to mention anti Christian and self diminishing.

  • Mark

Yeah I remember how the comedian Jimeoin, in a TV show he done a few years back, said how he went to Irish dancing that took place in the orange hall close to him.

Despite that, sure we all know that the huns dont want a catholic about the place and that orange halls are secret meeting places for…..blah blah blah *yawn*

  • ShayPaul

As a republican and no supporter of the orange order I unreservedly condemn the mindless sectarian bigots that perpetrate such acts.

  • maca

“sure we all know that the huns dont want a catholic about the place” which is why they are banned I presume?

Nasty attacks alright, small minded thugs.

We need a few example convictions as the total cost to the community of countless attacks is huge.

Failure to deter attacks also serves the interest of particular political parties, who thrive when people feel vulnerable and under attack.

The police should provide digital radio alarms and CCTV survelliance for sectarian and racist attacks to homes, chapels and churches, and social halls. Often these are repeat attacks, so nine out of ten systems installed are likely to be used.

Rewards should also be offered for information leading to convictions.

It may aften be idiots, but this raises community tensions, serving the interests of particular parties, and we need to see perpetrators in the dock.

We need to identify some of these faceless and sinister thugs, and to have them jailed.

    Agreed 100%.

Mindless pathetic attacks by people who have little to offer our society if this behaviour is to be the tally of their contributions.

  • GavBelfast

Just as those who might encourage attacks on Catholic church property or individuals by intemperate language about that church, so others need to be aware that demonising the Orange Order has the same effect on hooligans from the other side of the fence.

Still, it makes a change from racist attacks I suppose as indecent society here reverts to type.

    What a great place.

Sorry but the orange orders’ antics do enough to demonise themselves without anybodies help.

“To criticise a person for their race is manifestly irrational and ridiculous but to criticise their religion, that is a right. That is a freedom.

“The freedom to criticise ideas, any ideas – even if they are sincerely held beliefs – is one of the fundamental freedoms of society.

“A law which attempts to say you can criticise and ridicule ideas as long as they are not religious ideas is a very peculiar law indeed.”

“Right to offend is more important than the right not to be offended”
