Cause for celebration…

An cuis nach raibh me anseo ar feadh culpa lae – rugadh inion deas do mo bhean ceile Fay – agus Eve Mary an t-ainm ata aici.

The reason I’ve not been around for the last few days is that my wife Fay gave birth to a beautiful baby daughter – Eve Mary. For those of you sufficiently motivated, please feel free to wet the babies head!

  1. Great news Mick!I’m delighted for you.

What’s more, your experience of Slugger will stand you in great stead for all those sleepless nights ahead;)

  2. Congratulations Mick! That’s wonderful! And just before Christmas too…

good health to you and yours!

  3. Congrats Mick and best wishes to all the family. I’ve a 7 month old son in the house and I can assure you there will be plenty of sleepless nights ahead! You’ll do all your best work on Slugger 1-4am!

  4. Congratulations to both of you, particularly to Fay who did all the work!

Slugger will be the last thing you’ll think about with the wean in your arms – even at 4 am!

  5. Never knew you had it in you 😉

Congrats, and I hope mother and child are both well.

No mention of the weight, though?

  6. As long as all are keeping well Mick, that’s all that matters 🙂 Were you present ? It’s the most amazing thing. I was present at the birth of my third, Thomas. I Regret missing the birth of the first two.

  7. I was Dav. Not for the faint hearted, but a wholly miraculous process. I can, however, see the alternative attraction of the bar.

Amazing to think how we all arrive in more or less the same manner – the commonest miracle.

  8. Well done Mick!

“Not for the faint hearted, but a wholly miraculous process” Amazing process isn’t it? There´s nothing else like it.

  9. Congratulations Mick, well done Fay and welcome to the world little one, it really is not as bad as some of us make it appear.

    Happy Christmas

  10. I have but two pieces of advice but heed them well:

First, never raise your hands to your kids. It leaves your groin unprotected.
Next, money isn’t everything but it sure keeps the kids in touch.

    Party on.

  11. This came this evening from an old friend, and possibly one of the best and certainly more original thinkers you’ve never heard of…

    birth in a dark time

at a time when lies and death
    have been our daily fodder
a girl is born – a dove (again)
with the future in its beak
    praising the positive – releasing
    a newsprung hope against
    the bleak beliefs of power
into simple forms – the essence
of every good wish to be alive

there is such a need now
for innocence – and the virtues
that thrive in the hearts of people
    about their ordinary pursuits
    this birth seeks its echo
    where the moon is bright
and earth (with its sweet hum)
dares offer its fruits to all
in a dark time this twig of light
a girl is born – lullay lullay

    Thanks Greg!
