Newton Defends Himself.

Newton Emerson recently ran a caption competition, result here, that could and has been accused of bordering on poor taste.
In the Belfast Telegraph he defends his freedom to express himself outwith a self-imposed quota system where every satirical piece targetting ‘Green’ is ‘balanced’
by accompaniment of an equivalent attack on ‘Orange’.

I usually enjoy the Portadown News but that comp. is in poor taste IMO. Ah but shur what the hell, all you Northerners are thick skinned and well able to take it.

We only look that way Maca, but we are in truth incredibly caring and sensitive people who regularly
stroke puppies and weep floods of tears when Bambi’s mother get shot or Baloo seems to have been killed….

  • maca

    LOL 😉

  • Henry94

There is only one way to judge humour. It’s either funny or not. I think it’s funny.

  • George

    Certainly made me chuckle……..

  • Davros

I wonder if the republican who e mailed him posts here ? I thought Jimmy Sands caption was the better of the two , and must admit It never occurred to me to wonder whose coffin it was being carried.

  • irishman

Perhaps if it were Newt’s coffin it might be all the more funny… this in good taste, PNE???

  • Michael Turley

I thought it was funny anyway.

Other earlier Irish satire (possibly also bordering on poor taste) can be found here

  • Moderate Unionist

I think it is in poor taste.

Interesting Henry that we are on opposite sides of this argument. Maybe there is hope for us all!

  • Pat Mc Larnon

He puts what he believes to be humourous out there, if you agree fine. If not then don’t bother. You pays your money.
