O'Connor horse tests positive…

A horse ridden by Cian O’Connor previous to his Gold medal winning exploits at the Greek Olympics has tested positive for a sedative. O’Connor now faces an uphill struggle to retain his status as Olympic champion.

It’s been a few years since I did any horse work, but his story sounds credible. Back in the early 90’s when I did some NGRA work , we used as a rule of thumb the advice that a dog sedated shouldn’t be raced for several weeks , preferrably a month, so as to avoid positive urine tests. If as suggested tests are more sensitive, then my instinct would be to give him the benefit of the doubt.

    Say it aint so, Cian!

I’m willing to believe he’s innocent… after all Ireland has such a clean record when it comes to their gold medal winners……… oh then again……..

It will be interesting to watch the Sunday Independent on this one. They went after Michelle Smith like a lynch mob but Cian O’Connor is Tony O’Reilly’s godson so they will probably try to blame the horse.

If I was the Vet I would be watching my back Henry.

I heard that one of the horses is related to Michelle Smith … or was that one of the horses IS Michelle Smith … anyway, no matter …

  • Pat Mc Larnon

The Irish Independent security correspondent quoting unnamed security sources on both sides of the border, state that the horse was seen in the company of members of C Coy behaving in a suspicious manner and had a BMW horsebox.
He further states that O Connor is such a clean cut young boy that in no circumstances would he be involved in such low life working class behaviour. He stated,” doping is the work of the godfathers not of illustrious godsons” he further stated, ” the boy is innocent i’d stake my job on it.”

much as i’d love to give the man the benefit of the doubt, i think he’s guilty. he shouldn’t even wait for the b-test. just stick the medal in a jiffy bag and send to to brazil

It casts some doubt on The Godfather’s sporting prowess too. Should we have a retrospective urine test for Tony or would that just be taking the piss?

    Well well well.

The International Equestrian Federation (FEI)’s governing body has confirmed that the B sample of Waterford Crystal, the horse ridden by Olympic gold medallist Cian O’Connor, has been stolen in England.

The FEI said that the sample was stolen in Cambridgeshire as it was being transported to the horseracing forensic laboratories there from Paris on 21 October.

    O’Connor B sample tests positive

    This could get nasty.

I’m not sure how the Vet will stand in relation to using Human products.
