DUP: coming in from the cold with gusto

Suzanne Breen’s piece in the inaugral issue of the Village, is about the most comprehensive reporting of the thinking at the heart of the DUP to the media mainstream – well worth reading from top to bottom!

On powersharing:

“If we don’t have a Fenian about the place, we won’t get power. If we constantly obstruct Sinn F

    April 1 2004 ? 😉

  • Mick Fealty

I think you’re getting a tad obsessive Mr Davros. Any comment on the article?

  • Davros

    “a tad obsessive”

deconstructive Mick. Is the April 1 in the article or is it a mistake by Nuzhound ?

  • Colm

An excellent observation of the Leeds castle meetings, and a comprehensive portrait of each parties’s positions.

It is a believable article because you get no sense that the writer is ‘spinning’ for any one party or line.

I don’t think Davros’ point about the 1st April 04 byline was obsessive. It is worth questioning why it is there, especially as given the date, it could appear to suggest the article is a spoof. It wouldn’t be obvious to everyone that it is a mistake.

A certain degree of realism seems to be creeping into the ranks of the DUPers if this article is to be believed. Although the only thing missing from Breens’ rather sympathetic view of the DUPers was the soft lighting and the music. Good to see that her strategy of sucking around them in previous NL columns and other broadcasts seems to have paid dividends in this exclusive piece.

The DUPer behaviour around Hermon and Doherty shows that the pathetic wing of the party still does have a voice.

Good article Suzanne, if you’re reading.

  • Davros

Thanks Colm. I wondered if the April 1 meant that the Paisley:Kelly exchange was a spoof ?

  • nuzhound

    “April 1 2004 ? ;)”

My mistake. Sorry about that. I use a template for structuring Suzanne’s columns, but I forgot to change the date. If anyone sees anything like that in future, can you let me know? Thanks.

    John F.

  • nuzhound

That date is now fixed. Again, sorry about the confusion. I suppose I should change the default date on my template just because of the connotations of April 1.

  • Davros

Thanks John. You are a gent!

I agree, it is the best article I have read on the Leeds Castle talks.
