Bugs taken to leaders

As a second bug is found, this time in Sinn Fein party offices, Gerry Adams has vowed to hand the device back to Tony Blair, Bairbre de Brun (the device was in her offices) has highlighted the issue with 40 MEPs from the GUE/NGL and group leader Francis Wurtz has pledged to raise the matter with the European Parliament President Josep Borrell and the Conference of Presidents.

Mark, what a ham-fisted mess SF in Belfast made of it… The press conference was hilarious.

  • peteb

Her office, Mark? Funny that Gerry didn’t point that out yesterday when Mitchel, Catriona and himself hosted the press at the grand removal of the device from the floorboards.

BTW which version of the method of discovery are SF actually running with?

In the context of Europe, the Provos should regard themselves lucky they are part of the UK and not, say, Spain, where they’d find themselves banned altogether.

The former government minister Clare Short has said that Britain spied on the United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan.

The British Government dropped its prosecution of Katharine Gun, who had leaked a memo suggesting US intelligence was seeking British support for the bugging of fellow members of the United Nations security council.

I suppose a government that would bug the Scretary General of the United Nations isn’t going to be too worried about the European Parliament.

But the sooner we get rid of them from Ireland the better.

  • Davros

No British Embassey or Consulate in Nua

  • Henry94

    Davros

You may be right to assume they would use such facilities to spy but we will still have to have normal diplomatic relations.

  • peteb

    Ah.. “them” again.

  • Davros

So you won’t be rid of them unless you quit the EU and form your own version of Hoxha’s Albania ?

  • Davros

Best post I have seen in ages : “Harpo” at BBC claims to have heard that the bugs were planted by hard-liners of PIRA who are worried that Gerry is upto no good!

  • joe

Maybe when Gerry Adams hands the bug back to Tony,he should then hand back a load of captured munitions to Gerry as a show of good faith.

  • Davros

Don’t joke Joe – Phoney Tony is capable of anything!

That takes me back. What ever happened to CPI(ML)? They were the pro-Albanian party that took USI from the Workers Party with the help of Joe Duffy and Mark Durkin.

  • willowfield

    What’s USI?

  • Henry94

    willowfield

It’s the Union of Students in Ireland

  • willowfield

    Thanks.

On the subject of bringing bugs to leaders, I take it the Provos didn’t manage to get the Cold War-style bug on to the plane.

  • Ciaran

What about that lad who was set free last week for spying on John Major, was that Tony giving back to Gerry as part exchange? My Spy for your two bugging devices…:)
