Comment on Peter survives and pledges to try to deliver J&P by year end

I think Brian is jumping the gun with his analysis that everything’s ok. To my mind the Robinson story, while interesting, was a distraction. The fundamental problem – that SF need devolution of P&J and that DUP can’t deliver it this side of an Assembly election hasn’t gone away and if anything has got worse.
I’m still betting on joint Assembly / Westminster elections.

Comment on SDLP Leadership – Is Maginness’ declaration for McDonnell an indicator of ‘Big Mo’?

I remember many people, including some here if I’m not mistaken, criticising those who said that a deal on the SDLP leadership should be done to avoid the party tearing itself apart.
Reading some of the vitriol here, notably from those in the Anyone But Alasdair camp, do they still think that a leadership election in the middle of a general election campaign was a good idea?
The decision of Alban to back McDonnell has obviously rattled a lot of cages -neutral observers can only hope that the bitchiness that’s being displayed here tonight continues…

By the way, where is Margaret Ritchie these days? Her website lists her last news as being some time in mid November…

Good post Cusack. I was wondering what happened to the SDLP leadership campaign.
I agree there is a significance here beyond another MLA declaring their hand. Alban is a canny old bird and wouldn’t be declaring for McDonnell unless he sensed that there was genuine grassroots momentum behind him.
Claire’s point about the number of MLAs and MPs backing Margaret is an interesting insight – the idea that victory in the SDLP’s parliamentary party means anything is a dangerous one that may see Margaret come unstuck. Turkeys, as they say, were never keen on Christmas.
Oh, and by the way, I’m the original URQUHART. Some smart arse appears to have nicked my identity in Mick’s crazy registration gold rush. Beware imitations.
