  1. Comment on Northern Ireland parties give verdicts on PM debate

Interesting to see Rodney McCune and Gerry Lynch get some airtime regarding the PM debate. Does this suggest that East Antrim is in play, with the TUV taking a sizeable amount of Wilsons votes?

  2. Comment on ICC World Twenty20 Super8 – Ireland v Pakistan
    on 15 June 2009 at 8:15 pm

Pete was correct in saying that it is likely to be Irelands last match but there was a mathematical possibility that the irish could still qualify.

If we beat Pakistan, then there would be 3 teams on 2 points and then if Sri Lanka beat NZ in their final match then NZ Ireland and Pakistan would all be level on 2 points with Sri Lanka on 6 points. It would then come down to net run rates. Not that it really matters as the Irish currently need 61 from 23 balls…

Ireland played heroically against a far superior team. I still think the team selection is wrong, we need more specialised batters. Paul Stirling to name one, an attacking player who can score quickly.

When Andre Botha is back bowling again, Ireland attack will be even better. Surely we deserve a crack at Test Match status, as this would ensure that we would not loose our best players to Englands reserves ala Morgan and Joyce?

  5. Comment on Ireland close to opening win in World Twenty20
    on 9 June 2009 at 3:45 pm

Well done Ireland on beating another Test playing nation. Surely it is time for the I.C.C to give Ireland Test status as we can at least mix it with Bangladesh. It would also stop the influx of our best cricketers into the England team.

Good luck against India, and then for the Super 8′s guys!

It seems that the idea of ‘resting’ Peter Connell for 2 matches previous to this one was an inspired move by big Phil!

Roll on the twenty twenty world cup lol, we can win it! ( Not really )

    Keith O’Brien = Kevin O’Brien.

Ireland do not have the strength in depth to cope with irish players playing for other counties. Fact.

Good to see my club mate Paul Stirling hitting another half century though.

  8. Comment on Jeff Peel looses appeal – Burnside to be replaced ‘soon’
    on 4 May 2009 at 5:01 am

And yet the Peel saga goes on, Jeffrey Peel is becoming very irritating, I really did not think that one man could be so singleminded in his quest for media coverage. I have heard the phrase media junkie and whore used.
I hope you enjoyed reading the emails that myself along with a few of my fellow youth members of the conservative party sent you in response to the email you sent out. Good ridance to you sir, it seems that you cannot see the great potential of the new force that DC has formed with Sir Reg and the UUP.
Many of the young Conservatives have now joined the Young Unionists and now all of us young tories can play an active role for the first time with a view to getting one of our candidates elected for the first time in living memory in N.I. Thanks for nothing mr Peel.

I predict that Sinn Fein will top the poll, but that two unionist MEPs will be retained in the form of Nicholson and Dodds.

    de Brun 150,000
    Dodds 140,000
    Nicholson 105,000
    Maguiness 75,000
    Allister 35,000
    Parsley 20,000
    Agnew 15,000
    Duffy? 300

There is my prediction for what its worth. What does everyone think?

  10. Comment on Ireland crash to heavy defeat
    on 4 May 2009 at 4:41 am

What else is to be expected from our B side? We will never be competitive outside of the associate tournaments if England and their counties continue to take our best players.
I don’t blame the players for doing it as I would do the same as them if I was lucky enough to be as good as the William Porterfields of this world. If Ireland had Morgan, Porterfield, Rankin, Joyce etc etc then we would be a team to be reckoned with.

As is stands, Bangladesh would comfortably beat us. Stirling will be the next to go, then wilson. When will it end? The ICC has to answer these questions in a positive fashion for Irish cricket to have any future.
