  1. Comment on Catching up with Stephen Stewart (18 year old independent) #ae11 #bele11

You seem to think Stephen Stewart is privileged because some fees are paid to his school. From what I know his Da is a taxi driver in Dundonald. Doesn’t sound like too much of a silver-spoon candidate after all. Don’t knock folk for investing some dosh in their kids’ schooling.

I see fitzjameshorse1745 thinks the low £150 deposit might tempt him to stand in 2015. Hopefully at that time he will reveal who he is rather than making all these negative comments from his attic under a pseudonym.

  2. Comment on UUP Tory link to be maintained
    on 8 December 2010 at 11:19 am

The UUP has bled the Tories dry in having their 2010 election campaign funded. They did little to show the arrangement was an equal partnership as it was supposed to be. The Tories coughed up the cash but only, I gather, were allowed 2 out of the 17 joint candidates.

Now the Conservatives are the party of government I hope they don’t agree to this botched suggestion from the UUP. With no MPs the UUP can offer to take the Conservative whip outside NI as a sop to get the Tories locally to stand aside at the Asembly elections.

Why should the UUP get a clear run at the Assembly? It’s time the link was severed. NI voters can then vote for the party of government or the one in permanent decline.

  3. Comment on Brown makes the DUP an offer they can/cannot refuse
    on 6 May 2010 at 4:18 pm

I have difficulty trusting this letter until I see that a copy of it, not just the wording, is posted on the DUP site. Why have I doubts?
Firstly as posted by Rory Carr I would like to see exactly to whom the letter is addressed.
Secondly the grammar is odd – use of the Americanised words “recognize the unique problems” …and… “stabilize”… Maybe the Labour party author suffered under the English comprehensive school system, or maybe they are using a US spellcheck.

Come on DUP – clear the matter up by posting a copy of the letter on your site. You can cover Peter’s handwritten comments if you like.

  4. Comment on “A potential compromise” in North Down?
    on 23 February 2010 at 6:08 pm

Sir Reg is coming across as really weak in not standing up to Sylvia Hermon. She doesn’t buy into the link with the Tories. Fair enough. Many people in the Party are uncomfortable with the Tory link – but they have to bear it, or leave. The party policy is for 18 joint candidates in the General Election.

She cannot be allowed to stand with any Party support or with the Unionists putting noone against her.

Sir Reg must ensure a Unionist candidate who does support the link is put forward today, before the joint committee makes the final call.

If the UUP give in to the bullying of just one elected representative they will become a laughing stock in NI and at Westminster.

  5. Comment on Eames and Quigley confirm UDA commissioning…
    on 7 January 2010 at 4:22 pm

Shame the story got dwarfed. Anyway – the decommissioning was overseen by Northern Ireland’s Statler and Waldorf (see Muppets). What did those two old guys know about what they were seeing? I bet it was an old .303, some packets of digestive biscuits and a few air rifles.
