R Stones, you’re right Vev was leader of opposition and didn’t attend at all, all but one Gov minister apparently stood outside the Churh while the service took place – even though Hyde was accorded a State Funeral – bizzare
Ms Wiz, you’re right we shouldn’t hve to point it out but by pointing proper behaviour we highlight that for all the excuses the likes of the DUP ministers are not bound by some unbreakable pledge they are doing it of their own free will.
As for De Valera and the guys that was nearly exactly 60 yeas ago – 12/07/1949 Douglas Hyde died. and we all have moved on since then I would hope

Folks the sad reality is that this problem of DUP types not attending Catholic services etc has always been with us, yesterday and today while we beat up on Nelson McCausland many forget that the DUP minister skillfully all avoided attending Const Stephen Carroll’s funeral back in March.
Now undoubtedly they were all to busy filing their nails or watching family movies in hotels but the media and our collective community let them away with it then.
So why the indignation now – we let them away with it in March so they believe they can get away with it now
Our so called Ministers feed of our sectarian acceptance and repeat the behaviour.
Likewise when others don’t behave in a sctarian way we ignore it – reg Empey orangeman and all went to Stephen Carroll’s funeral and no one said boo – either in praise or condemnation
I find the DoE and in this case the DUP members sensitivity quite touching and I agree politicians children should not be part of the members political life nor should they be used as political campaigns
Pity then that in the past DUP figures have thought that other politicians families etc have been fair game both for attack, public comment and in some cases physical attacks – Banbridge Election Count for example or various protests outside politicians homes
Robbo is quite correct, Wee Jeffrey is entitled to the presumption of innocence. “Nobody ever suggested anything else” – but as the DUP have a history and a mentality of judging first and sorting out the facts later the shouldn’t be surprised if everyone else jumps to conclusions.
As for the real issue, while for many in our sex obsessed Northern Ireland the contents of Wee Jeffries view will be of interest surely claiming for what may amount to entertainment is the real issue .
If it were entertainment then he should never have claimed for it in the first place – cert U or cert 18
Couldn’t agree more but i must as I’m surprised I thought he was better than this but clearly it was all bluff and bluster. Possibly the real brains was Paisley himself and while the media fawned over Robbo the missed the real tactician.
Likewise maybe Robbo didn’t realise it eithre thus when he and his cronies knifed IPJ causing the da to go he actually shot himself
Some observers have suugested that Robbo has lost authority and thus control over the DUP.
its been suggested that Sammy Wilson refused to go in the reshuffle, Dodsy refused to stay and Arlene was just plain Arlene (my view obnoxious).
Clearly in Nth Antrim paisley snr believes he still call the shots and junior believes where ever he is he can do as he likes.
In the expensses row Robbo has shown himself to be clumsy and out of touch.
All in all not a good record, the Assemly is failing to deliver and the electorate have begun to totally disengage.
Unless Robbo takes control it over for him. He needs to show authority and deal with the likes of IPJ and it has to be said, he needs to deal with IPS as well.
Either Robbo leads or he goes.
Clearly there are those who are willing to challenge him – equally clearly Robbo doesn’t seem willing to take them on!
Prediction – all political careers end in failure.
A Belfast epic, and one of my oldest poems, the opener of my first collection, Grub. The gist of the story was found in Moss & Hume’s Shipbuilders to the World: 125 Years of Harland and Wolff, Belfast, 1861-1986, which tells how Eva Peron was due to launch a huge whaling vessel in Belfast, built [...] read our review »
I share many of the concerns of Andy Pollak, whose recent post ‘My Response to the Slugger Begrudgers’ zeroed in on the ‘relentless flow of negativity’ of some Slugger commentators. Pollak’s post was largely concerned with the medium of the blog. Indeed, I think the anonymity of the online world encourages extreme discourse and allows [...] read our review »

Comment on By election for Ballymoney?
on 6 July 2009 at 2:52 pm
Evelyne Robinson – part of that other DUP Robinson dynasty – I believe she is the mother of Mark Robinson former DUP member for South Belfast?
As for the TUV chances in Ballymoney this is the heartland of the true believers – they believed Paisley and they feel betrayed by Paisley.
Allister would be accused of running away were he not to take this opportunity
