Somehow I feel this is a “postoperative” view…

As a mother, there is no way on “God’s Green Earth” I would have taken my child down there…

Comment on Why distinctions between public and private don’t really exist in new media…

Actually, it’s one of the most bizarre committee meetings I’ve ever seen. Not so much “briefings” by either group, but some surreal version ofl “Dragon’s Den” ;-D

Get the impression there’s more to it than this.
Highly unprofessional of Coleraine’s Mr Mc Clarty to refer to remarks made on the guy’s personal Facebook Page.
.
Watched the whole session, and there would appear to have been some kind of “disagreement” between Mr Batt and the Commander/Commodore of CRS.
There’s many a tale to be told about that organisation, it’s founder and his departure/”retirement” from HM Coastguard.
I’d be interested to know what Mr Batt’s privacy settings were when this remark was accessed.
Feel sorry for him, as the remark served no purpose, other than to conveniently undermine his proposals

Comment on Declan Gormley launches multiple legal actions…
on 3 March 2012 at 3:19 pm
Hmmm, BBC once again failing to pick up on the fact that Mr Gormley was sacked on the back of a very controversial “independent” report “jointly commissioned by NI Water’s chief executive, Laurence MacKenzie, and the permanent secretary of the Department of Regional Development.”http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/8563672.stm
Should the BBC item not state that “Mr Gormley and others at NI Water were *allegedly* sacked over the way contracts were awarded at the company?”

Comment on Paying whistleblowers is sometimes in the public interest…
on 19 February 2012 at 10:11 pm
Surely the whole point of whistle blowing, is that it is a matter of conscience?
Payment means personal gain and and ulterior motive, and that at least is enshrined in law.
However, as Ulick points out the authorities are too often involved in finding the source of the damning information rather than whether there is any truth to the allegations….
“It is in the process of issuing legal proceedings against a former employee….The council received an anonymous letter last week which made allegations about the testing of Legionella in our swimming pools.”
I hope the whistle was blown before the “former employee” lost their job….

Comment on Twentieth anniversary of Teebane
on 19 January 2012 at 9:42 pm
I haven’t commented on this thread, out of respect for the families and remembering a very dear friend murdered that night.
It hardly seems like twenty years since that devastating phone call and my father giving me news I thought I would never hear.
There must be justice for the families, but equally there must be justice ” for atrocities like Bloody Sunday, Rosemary Nelson and Pat Finucane.”

“The presumption will be to release all records but any document that can be shown to contain “information prejudicial to the effective conduct of public affairs in Northern Ireland or to the work of the Executive Committee of the Northern Ireland Assembly” will be held back for 10 years longer.”
