Dont believe there will be more to emerge, Whilst I totally understand his position, what needs to be answered is why did Ireland enimies never use this against him

That is quite another issue altogether. There’ll be a time to discuss it but that time is not now.

As things stand I don’t believe Gerry Adams’s position is untenable. He has shown considerable dignity in dealing with what must be a very unpleasant situation. However if further unpalatable details emerge – and are substantiated – his position may well become untenable.

Why would Adams have went to the Gardaí? He says he was unaware Liam was involved in youth work at the time he was living in Dundalk. Also it was not his decision to take to go to the police – it was Aine’s and at that time she did not want to. Remember too that there were no statutory checks for those working with children in the south at the time. And that the system in the North failed too in Liam Adams’s case. And that the relevant northern authorities were aware that Liam was living in Donegal when the original allegations were made but do not appear to have passed the information on.

I’ve watched the UTV show, listened to the Tommy Gorman interview, read the weekend press, perused this morning’s Irish News, listened to the Talkback and Pat Kenny interviews and … as things stand, I don’t see how this a resignation issue.

However, who knows what tomorrow might bring?

Is that a fact Paul or just your opinion? Let us know when you’ve found the smoking gun.

    a Shéamuis,

I’d say Gerry would prefer to have this scandal wrapped up before Moloney’s new book comes out.

People who were sexually abused; have ahigh propensity to become sexual abusers themselves – that is simply a sad fact. It does not make it right or wrong.

You didn’t really mean to type that, did you?

  9. Comment on Adams recommended his brother of candidature for a Dail seat in 1997…

Liam Adams did not win the selection. A guy called Owen Hanratty did. This was in the run up to the RIRA split which was centred on Dundalk.

I heard him say ‘abroad’ as well. Is Dundalk the ‘near abroad’ or did Liam go somewhere else as well?
