  3. Comment on On that cold house for loyalism……
    on 22 June 2011 at 5:11 pm

Good article. I am so bored of hearing PUP and Loyalists bemoaning the fact they have no voice. Has the penny not dropped that the electorate rejected what they had on offer? Can they not accept the democratic process?

They may feel they have no voice but this is no excuse taking to the streets and destroyed the community they live in. PUP and Loyalists and UVF (if they truely want a ceasefire) would be better placed coming up with a strategic plan to move their politcal agenda forward. To be honest their 2011 Assembly and Council manifesto was a joke.

  4. Comment on Layout of Bryson Street interface
    on 22 June 2011 at 4:50 pm

The estate at number 3 is Protestant, Northern Ireland Housing Executive very rarely create mixed housing developments in Belfast, which is one of the problems in N.I. in my opinion and why we end up with interfaces all over the city.

  5. Comment on DUP already planning for co-options?
    on 16 April 2011 at 7:37 pm

In my opinion, the real issue is with those MLAs who are also MPs, I do not understand how they can do both jobs, get two substantial wages and two office cost allowances!

Council is in reality meant to fit around a full time job, but I dont think it sits particularly well with the electorate when that other job is MLA. I think the DUP are just very concerned about losing their “big hitters” at Council level and fielding relative unknowns in elections.

  6. Comment on “If the Executive took a needs based approach rather than a politically expedient route…”
    on 12 March 2011 at 6:03 pm

“Upgrading football stadiums is all very well but surely the investment would be better spent attracting greater crowds and improving the image of football rather than getting nice new turnstiles or seats. The IFA don’t really need all that money for stadia but they’ll take it.”

Al, surely by upgrading the stadiums this will attract more people and improve the image. Many stadia in NI fail to attract large crowds due to poor facilities. Due to the poor state of repair of many grounds, capacity has been limited as a result of Health and Safety legislation. This money will hopefully improve the situation, providing better facilities and thus attracting more spectators.

I think it is a shame; however, that other sports and their porposals have been overlooked such as plans for a cycling velodrome and much needed improvements to the Mary Peters Track in Belfast.

  7. Comment on PPS not to prosecute Iris Robinson
    on 12 March 2011 at 5:53 pm

Personally, I don’t think it really matters that the PPS are not going to prosecute Iris, the damage was already done when the programme was broadcast and the aftermath.

I think the Assembly standards investigation will be much more interesting and potentially damaging to the Robinsons than any legal investigation.
