For anyone who hasn’t previously visited Derry, a free weekend will be interesting and lots of fun, I’m sure.

  2. Comment on British & Irish flags at new Korean War Memorial for Ulster troops
    on 4 May 2013 at 7:51 am

Many young folk will go and fight anywhere just for a bit of adventure if the “cause” is somehow connected to their earlier indoctrination. There’s nothing remarkable that they might bring along their “National Flag” and display it there while in action or use it later in commemorations.

Isn’t innuendo such a wonderful (political) tool. The sins not only of the fathers but more distant relatives too. We put up with too many mealy mouthed contributors.
Yes, the DFM has admitted membership of the IRA in the past but enough time has passed that he deserves credit for his more recent contributions. Not, of course, that I am a SF supporter.

  4. Comment on Adams’s extended RTE interview on political murder turns the southern clock right back for Sinn Fein…
    on 1 May 2013 at 4:32 am

..different people view those same events through entirely different moral prisms…

    Agreed.
But what we seem to be discussing is not those events but whether or not the SF President is a liar and lies continuously almost every time he is interviewed. That’s a question of morality(?) separately from the horrible acts carried out by misguided youngsters, in the main.

  5. Comment on Sinn Fein undermining the sanctity of marriage
    on 29 April 2013 at 11:20 pm

Interesting that those priests have a problem with same sex folks declaring a lifetime commitment to each other. They didn’t have anything to say about adult men diddling little boys did they? Apologies if they did.

  6. Comment on Presbyterian Church Punishes Ford for Marriage Equality Vote
    on 29 April 2013 at 7:45 pm

You don’t need Churches to tell you what is “moral”. Most people and many other creatures have an innate sense of what is “right” and what is “wrong”. I am not a member of any religious sect and I do my best to follow my innate senses. As I have said before, two people of the same sex getting married does not affect me or diminish my heterosexual marriage.

    abucs,

They are not missing. Lots of investigations have been carried out both as to the “causes” of homosexuality and different opinions on the “rightness” or “wrongness” of it. The main consensus is that you are born so inclined.
And, NO, I will not google it for you; you’re quite capable of doing that yourself. It doesn’t affect me adversely for some people to be homosexually inclined.

Don’t know Granni, but like everyone else (I think) who has ever visited San Francisco, I went over to see Alcatraz and willing spent the entrance fee.

  9. Comment on #Reilly legislation on abortion: It’s truly idiotic
    on 27 April 2013 at 1:36 am

We are commenting only on a daft draft Bill so there is a chance that wiser heads will prevail for the eventual Act, although I’m not particularly optimistic.

  10. Comment on No parallels with Ireland as a pro-union strategy in Scotland begins to emerge at last
    on 26 April 2013 at 11:44 pm

Perhaps the Scots lost out by not declaring England to be but a colony when James VI and his pals went down to London and took over.
