Israel boarded the ship in international waters with the intent to PLUNDER it’s cargo. They have stated as such on TV —Israel committed piracy and per international law those that borded the ship are pirates.. The families of the murdered should bring a legal case against Israel as acting as pirates. Those who have been detained by Israel should bring legal claim against them as pirates (Israel removed them from their ship). This then makes Israel an enemy of EVERY state because that is the international law regarding piracy. It would open a legal nightmare for Israel.
Israel will release information that will state that the boat that refused to be boarded was carrying hidden weapons that they were bringing to Gaza and they will use that statement to justify what they did. It will be interesting to see how the Obama administration plays this out. Obama needs Turkey to bring preasure on Iran and Obama needs Israel. How does he work it to make both sides happy and will the world buy Israel’s story of justification.
Hi Catherine, I think gerry adams is a man who talks the talk to make money for himself and family yet does not walk the walk. A very telling aspect of the man– back a few years ago in the US George Bush wanting to put political pressure on gerry adams….had gerry adams striped searched in the airport. Now we see the results of that—gerry adams even in his blog told about taking the train because it is less evasive than airports. The man can be easily frightened and intimidated thus he can be manipulated. He also loves the trappings of power. Now if that is who the people elect—then they should accept the fact he doesn’t help them better their neighborhoods or pocket book. If they want change…then they should change who they vote for.
In the US the Irish politican is known for taking care of one’s neighborhood and people. It is how the Irish grew politically and became a force in American politics. Gerry Adams does not take care of his neighborhood or people. With all his time getting investments for the north of Ireland…his area should be a place of high employment and renovated neighborhoods. What has occured is an arrogance of power and subtle threats. Gerry gets votes not by his deeds but by making people think if they do not vote for him…the area will tumble out of control and the country will once again be gripped in fear and bombs. As for not taking his seat…it is similiar to campaigning to be voted prom king at the dance but then refusing to go after winning. If sinn fein states like they do…politics is the way forward but then refuses to participate in a body of politics they are duly elected to serve…then they really do not believe politics is the way forward. So who is the true dissidants to politics?
Hi Michaelhenry–don’t follow what you’re statement is regarding—that Bernard McGinn was released per terms of the GFA…or that the british gov’t should seriously open an investigation and possible arrest of gerry adams for the murder of the mother of 10… Currious, though, what makes you think I haven’t read the agreement?
Bernard McGinn was releasted per terms of the Good Friday Agreement because he was sentenced for a crime prior to the Good Friday Agreement. I would think a more important issue for the british gov’t would be the guilt or innoncence of gerry adams for the murder of the mother of 10. Gerry if found guilty would not be subject to release because he would be found guilty after the agreement. That is where time and money should be spent….
Hi Michaelhenry. I like your play on words but don’t really follow what you want proven…the fact adams has money…loves his suits or that Jean was probably buried in an article of clothing not up to gerry’s standards of what he wears?
Hi pippakin, I agree martin mcguiness was sending out a hint…but I see it he was stiring up the frenzy again against adams putting pressure on adams. We now know that adams is a liar…but mcguiness is the one ruling the party with an iron fist. He is the man who labels those who don’t go along with his view as people who want to go back to violence. Martin mcguiness is the man to be very careful of and gerry adams is a lying pinochio who will be a very lonely old man.
Hi Michaelhenry…things are a wee bit different now and the movement especially sinn fein is being rocked by scandal. Just how much do people have to take? There has been a hemorage of people leaving sinn fein—people don’t look at gerry adams the same and don’t look at sinn fein the same for keeping him. Then there is martin mcguiness bringing up cardinal brady;s sins on protecting sex offending priest-…where is his voice to call for gerry adams to step down. Both gerry and brady are guilty of the same thing. Both protected brothers (brady’s priest brothers and gerry’s blood brother) In a way…I think martin mcguiness is worse. He finds fault with the cardinal but says nothing except support for adams. Rather twisted and perverted.
‘news’ is often a polite way of saying ‘editor’s whim’ Given the shift from print to online and e-ink, maybe Tom Rachman’s The Imperfectionists was a suitable first first book for me to finish reading on the Kindle. Considering the economic pressures on the newspaper industry, his novel perhaps captures the spirit and soul of [...] read our review »
I’ve been catching up on some reading, recently. Most pleasantly surprised by John Drennan’s latest opus from Gill and Macmillan, Cute Hoors and Pious Protestors… It’s early days yet, but I was struck by this paragraph, part of a dissection of Fianna Fail near the beginning: One of the more fatal consequences of our colonial [...] read our review »
I initially wrote this when the book was first published three years ago; whilst certain elements of it now sound dated, its basic premise that the period of 1997-2007 was a period of irreversible decay for Northern Irish Unionism can still be argued as a valid opinion. My own feeling is that it did indeed [...] read our review »
