THe issue here is not who these people were once connected to or not, some of them were also members of the IRSP as was Eamonn McCann, but what are they at now. They are a bunch of self serving criminals who tax alledged drug dealers and criminals and the entire political spectrum in Derry oppose them bar a few dissidents. It only serves their own sense of self importance to keep implying that they are in somewhat republican.

its strange that the letter from the relatives and wounded had to be pointed out to you as it was on the same page as the letter you refernced extensively from jim keys,
they might get a few 100 or even a 1000 but this is not sustainable and they shoudnt tarnish the campaign by allowing it to become a rabble of rebels without a cause or worse.
it should also be noted that over 100 relatives of those murdered on bloody sunday including 7 of the nash family, most of the wounded or relatives of those wounded also had a letter in fridays dery journal outlimg howthey came to the collective decision last year to call an end to the march. this was endorsed by the majority of the weekend committee and the bloody sunday trust.
by the way word has it that Gary donnelly is one of the main speakers, that should draw a large crowd.
Lets not blame nolan, bloggers and others for this mess it was all Big Als doing and the crap that he was misquoted by the Irish News is also crap remember he dug the hole deeper when he answered Brian HEading and stated that politicians were close to “starvation wages”. This is also the guy who spoke last week of sharing the cake. Maybe £43000 is starvation wages for Soliticitors Doctors Lawyers but not for ordinary People.
People dont seem to be getting what the issue is here, players like Darren Gibson and James McClean grew up in Derry supporting the Republic of Ireland team and I am sure dreaming of playing for them one day. They are Irish and want to play for the country that most represents their national identity. If anybody wants to get a sense of this come to Derry next June it will be like being in Dublin Cork Galway Newry or any other Irish town or city all the shops and bars will be decorated in the Green White and Orange and what will make it better hopefully we will have at least two local lads playing. If Norn Ireland ever qualified it wouldn’t be the same at all as the vast majority of citizens would have no interest.
This was a book that I first reviewed at the same time as “Unionism Decayed” back in 2008. Like Vance’s work, it is the author’s portrayal of a defeated political movement or ideal and as a Unionist it was instructional to read an interpretation of the immediate post-Agreement period from the other side of the fence. ‘news’ is often a polite way of saying ‘editor’s whim’ Given the shift from print to online and e-ink, maybe Tom Rachman’s The Imperfectionists was a suitable first first book for me to finish reading on the Kindle. Considering the economic pressures on the newspaper industry, his novel perhaps captures the spirit and soul of [...] read our review »
World by Storm has a nice piece up on the IRA’s role in helping MK, the armed wing of the ANC, in the 1980s. In particular he sees a strange alchemy at work there: …if one can think of a clearly legitimate contemporary struggle it was that against apartheid and it is to the credit [...] read our review »
