As an Alumni of one of Boston College’s exchange programmes i can say that Hachey is as clued in as any academic over here.

I had the priviledge of joining him for dinner in the Burns library one evening and found him to be a true gentleman.

I’m delighted that people have decided to place their trust in BC for a project of this nature.

It could not be in safer hands.

  2. Comment on “Let me take this particular issue away..”

Alex made his point well, with restraint and dignity.

It makes me genuinely sad that in the same time that he beavered away in the library researching his point SF advice centres probably filled out another two DLA forms for his constituents.

Until the general public start to hang on every word in the Assembly trying to convince people how clever you are at procedure & process simply is not what will deliver Alex the type of turnaround in electoral fortune that the SDLP require in his constituency.

    Conall

I have to agree with Alan (comment 4).

As a regular reader of your musings on O’Conall Street (and its just my opinion) i am of the view that you (or Mick) should re-consider your status as a contributor to slugger.

If i want to read what an MLA has to say i will visit their site or blog. I don’t really expect to see it here on slugger.

Issues of equality of access are obvious i.e. how many other MLAs have been invited by Mick to be contributors. I know David Ford is an occassional commentor but its not the same as having the freedom to start your own threads.

in addition your thread is simply a constituency/public awareness matter. I think most people are confident you will do well as an MLA, but i don’t need threads on Slugger telling me how clever you’ve been to dig out an emotive issue in your first week.

As an SDLP MLA i’m sure you’ll have no problem digging the equality language and hanging up the username and passwords.

As i said… just my opinion… its up to you…(or Mick).

  4. Comment on BBC Cameras outside DUP Headquarters in Belfast…

Resigning on a Saturday… these DUP boyos have nothing to learn about media management. Nice!

Good effort at reducing the cynicism as to how they’ve handled this whole affair too!

  5. Comment on The Rights and Wrongs of TV3 and Brian Lenihan
    on 29 December 2009 at 7:33 am

In fairness to TV3 i watched it as the story was breaking… It was around the same time as RTE’s Nuacht and News for the Deaf… The fact that at (approx) 5:45pm they weren’t reporting on it at the same time as TV3 had a full item on the news came across as TV3 clearly stealing a march on them.

Yes the American airline was big news but it was recycling earlier item for the headline…

RTE did actually include an item on their main news bulletin but it was just as a brief.

Whether their restraint was as a result of a considered culture in determining editorial finely honed over the years or due to a clunking ethics committee approach to news is best for others to speculate.

I know which news caught my attention the most that night…
