‘mark, heres a bit of a dare for you. if you are going to ardoyne, how about actually joining one of the lodges that are parading? maybe someone on slugger could have a word and get you a dress uniform (or whatever its called) and get you in to walk with a lodge?’
I suppose if Mark is comfortable marching with an Orange lodge that is led by a band who commemorate UVF terrorists!
Mark, you could simply go to Belfast and see if you can spot the convicted Shankill Butcher carrying an Orange Order banner commemorating another loyalist UVF murderer. He’s part of the local UVF lodge.
‘I don’t have a “serious issue with the idea of a 32-county rugby team”’
Careful now willowfield, next thing you know you will be joining Northern playing greats like Martin O’Neill, George Best and Pat Jennings & others like Lennon, Dougan and Hamilton in voicing your support for an Ireland soccer team
The next time Ken Wilkinson is in Tesco rattling his tin of corn for donations to his pigeon club, i think i’ll buy a pigeon pie and get him to bag it for me.
Glad to see that Watson has issued a statement clarifying his involvement.
It would have been nonsensical for him to object to 10 year olds in GAA jerseys packing bags in Tesco when he is happy to march in Orange Parades every summer with bands who glorify loyalist terrorists and presenting awards to loyalist bands like the Randalstown Sons of Ulster Flute Band
Its also an improvement from comments like “Travellers are the scum of the earth” & calling Travellers “scum bags”.
Next thng you know he will change his mind and allow gay couples to stay in his B&B.

Maybe a Thomas Begley Cup (if there isnt one already).’
I hear the Irish Football Association president Raymond Kennedy is going to present the GAA with a special 125 year award after marching in this years 12th of July Orange Order parade in Belfast.
After marching with loyalist terrorist supporters and bands commemorating the murderers of Nationalists over the last 30 years(including the Shankill Butchers), he is going to present a specially designed Orange Order plaque dedicated to the thousands of victims of the UVF & UDA.
He will then go back to work on the following Monday and support the IFA’s ‘Football For All’ program which welcomes all players who stand for God Save The Queen, welcome the singing of ‘The Famine Song, encourage the ‘No Surrender’ chants, Rule Britannia,Dam Busters etc.. & continue to support the flying of the unionist stormont flag as representing Mr Kennedy’s ‘Country’
I’m not sure why you are blaming Kennedy on this one. Surely the blame lies with players, referee’s, administrators or whoever, is trying to fix games.
This happens almost every year in the IFA league. Allegations of match fixing and suspended betting occured last year, 2007, 2006 etc…
I recall bookmakers claiming that ‘runners’ were being used by organised gangs to place bets in betting shops around the city.
Its hardly all Kennedy’s fault that corruption and match fixing allegations seem to be a regular part of the Irish league.
In the Irish Times, Brian Cosgrove takes up temporary residence in An Irishman’s Diary in the hope that, with the lifting of European copyright restrictions on James Joyce’s major works, a greater familiarity with Joyce’s ”sometimes ruthless realism” may change the nature of the “annual Edwardian charade” that is Bloomsday. From the Irish Times The devastating cultural effects [...] read our review »

Ireland is in the middle of a boom – a running boom. Chances are, even if you have never run a step yourself (apart from some painful P.E. classes many moons ago), someone you know has taken up running over the last little while. Strange that the Alliance councillor in Banbridge was comfortable in not oppossing the unionist decision to fly the Union jack for 365 days a year.

‘We should start a shinty organisation between N.Ireland and Scotland, open to everyone.’
Ireland and Scotland already compete annually in compromise shinty/Hurling matches in most age groups.
Belfast Cuchulainns – A cross community school hurling team have also played our celtic neighbours in the compromise games event.
