I agree with Conall in his posting Ritchie ballsed it up and there are a lot of angry Fianna Fail people over the years who went the extra mile for the SDLP at election time and successive Fianna Fail Taoisigh who kept doors open for them and this is how they are repaid getting stabbed in the back by a newbie at a Labour Conference in Galway-
I think personally that as a result of this in South Down that a lot of the electorate will vote for Ruane
It could end up like Newry & Armagh despite a significant Unionist vote will plump for Sinn Fein
and Fianna Fail will be given the Green Light to run for Local Councils and Assembly Elections next year
Ritchie doesnt live in Downpatrick but in the outskirts of Annacloy part of her former Council area of Rowallane
Just shows you she is only too happy to forget her roots and the people of Rowallane who gave her 600 odd 1st preferences back in 85
She thinks she is in the big picture but there is a good day coming
May 6th I hope
Ritchie was glad of FIANNA FAIL in Washington on St Patricks Day when An Taoiseach Brian Cowan added her to the Irish Government delegation to meet President Obama –
The State Department werent interested in Ritchie
and the SDLP
and she was like a spoiled brat she let herself down and cried wolf -
Remember its manners to be asked
In South Down there is a different political landscape with Eddie Mc Grady retiring from politics his heir apparent Maggie Ritchie does not draw the same respect from all communities thar EK took for granted-
Her views on the Orange Order and her “green” credentials are a major no no to decent unionist people
People overlook the fact that in recent elections when the SDLP incumbent retired such as Newry & Armagh huge personal majorities were overturned in favour of Sinn Fein
In recent times with the economic downturn and jobs etc being lost and people loosing jobs etc the antics of the double jobbers like ritchie are turning people off they see her and her ilk as clapped out and past their sell by date
and are now looking for new alternatives – South Down will be a interesting contest and with Mc Grady gone you can be assured that this will be one of the most interesting contests of 2010.
Handbags at Dawn no doubt
Its long overdue Politicians here in the WEE NORTH
should be the same as their Southern Counterparts
NO DUAL MANDATE
ONE JOB ONLY
RITCHIE EMPEY ROBINSON FORD ADAMS etc TAKE NOTE
Ordinary people are sick sore and tired of the snoughts in the trough politicians
YOUR DAY WILL COME
What about Margaret Richie ?
If she gets MP -South Down will she give up MLA
SDLP- WHATS IN IT FOR ME
she gave up her Council Seat in line with SDLP Policy on double jobbing as a MLA
Doubtful if she will give all that up
she will tell all and sundry if Peter Robinson can triple job as MP MLA AND MINISTER so can I
sheer piggery and greed
I think now there will be a Pan Unionist Candidate in South Belfast following the announcement in Fermanagh South Tyrone – this will put an impetus into DUP / Official Unionists to bang heads and bury their differences and putting an end to SDLP representation in Westminster
A contributor has mentioned that this picture of Ritchie & Obama will appear on her literature in the forthcoming General Election -
When people read her fairy story and her fantasy wish list trying to con the electorate that mughsot will remind the people on the ground of what sort of person that is aspiring to “represent” them – Someone for their own ends and as far as the ordinary people are concerned the old rhyme is true and sums Ritchie to a tee
THE WORKING CLASS MAY KISS MY ASS I GOT THE BOSSES JOB AT LAST-
see you at the next Election
Reminds of me of a pop song years ago Its my party and I will cry if I want to –
This whingeing has shown her to be a spoilt selfish brat of a child who threw a tantrum because she couldn’t get into the party
which she “gatecrashed” after huffing and puffing like the big bad wolf to Joe Public -
Its not proper etiquette Margaret and the old saying is true it’s manners to wait to you are asked and the reason why is that the SDLP and Ulster Unionists are no longer in the picture and disappeared of the radar screen as far as the US are concerned and in the coming weeks here people are going to give the cute hoor politicians a boot in the proverbials =The whole St Patricks Day shenanigans of Ritchie has shown her to be ego istic and very embarrassing and its true she and her cohorts have abandoned the working class and Sinn Fein along with others have claimed the moral high ground
Near choked on the fish supper yesterday when the “First Minister” Margaret Ritchie told a UTV interviewer that if and when she won the South Down seat that she would give the DSD Portfolio to one of her ministerial colleagues
-Peter Robinson and Martin Mc Guinness will be saying in the words of that old Dermot Morgan record
Thank you thank you very much Miss Ritchie …..
I personally think all this has gone to her head and she has a unsatiable appetite for position power and off course she has happily orphaned her promises on giving up DSD when elected leader and is hell bent on election to do the double – It won’t wash with Joe Public and it clearly didnt work when you were a Councillor /MLA .
The ink was barely dry on Eddie Mc Grady’s political obituary when Maggie announced she was going to run ….. people are thinking that all this was stage managed over the past few months …and as one contributor put cute hoorism doesn’t work and has left a bad taste … PEOPLE AREN’T STUPID ANYMORE and what the SDLP in South Down don’t reailise their day for taking people for granted are over….cometh the man cometh the hour.
Which reminds me…. Platform for Change’s driving force Robin Wilson has produced a corrective to the notion that the lessons of the NI conflict are easily exportable. Like myself, Robin is associated with the Constitution Unit. He introduced his new book in a CU blog which I here reproduce. The water crisis in Northern Ireland [...] read our review »
Here’s something to keep you occupied over the weekend. [Will there be a quiz? - Ed] Possibly… The BBC magazine has an short and interesting, but un-embeddable, audio slide-show of Melvyn Bragg’s Radio 4 five-parter, In Our Time: The Written World. The British Library has more online information about the texts and technology featured in each [...] read our review »
Ed Moloney’s Voices from the Grave: Two Men’s War in Ireland has received considerable attention in the press and in the public realm since its publication earlier this year. Although the book relates the experiences of the Provisional IRA’s Brendan Hughes and the PUP/UVF’s David Ervine, much of the discussion has focused on Hughes’ stories [...] read our review »
