  1. Comment on Gilmore comes out from the shadows over O’Donoghue…
    on 7 October 2009 at 10:11 pm

“Bullshit, shinners were first out to call for him to go, Gilmore playing catch up”

Very true but speaking to journalists outside the dail did not compare to tackling the Bull in his own bailiwick. A bit more political savvy and Sinn Féin will learn that where you speak may be more important than what you say, and that ‘added value’ like Gilmore’s calling of a meeting, has much more credibility than running to the press.

  3. Comment on US Secretary of State to visit NI “within weeks”
    on 2 October 2009 at 6:19 am

    Alan

As a republican I am inclined to agree with you. What sort of a place is this that all it takes to get people quivering in excitement is a visit from a yank?

“Most people would regard the concept of a UI with varying degrees of positivity” Erasmus.

I imagine mz O’Connor is aware of this but is equally aware that most of you have no intention of doing anything to bring that UI about. This is the crux of the matter, people in the 26 counties may be well disposed to a United Ireland but it is very low down on their scale of priorities and in reality is nothing more for many than an ‘it would be nice’ which puts it on a par with bar room republican song singing.

  5. Comment on Durkan challenges nationalism on unity and calls for a Northern Assembly in United Ireland

    RepublicanStones,
sorry to be a nuisance about this but the GFA carefully excluded defining what a majority would be but very few actually believes it means 1 person.

Why so, KieranJ? Why does she know nothing and why are we Irish all wrong?

  7. Comment on Sinn Féin Councillor’s ‘No’ protest “juvenile” – Adams
    on 2 October 2009 at 2:52 am

Sean, is there any truth in the rumour that Arthur Morgan may not run in the next election and that Sharkey is maneuvering for the seat? Arthur may be intent on returning to the family business.

Give Adams his due on this, he did the right thing and castigated his councillor publicly; that’s not easy for any party leader.

  9. Comment on “partitionist nonsense”
    on 1 October 2009 at 7:08 pm

In today’s Irish News Gerry Adams takes his councillor to task over this escapade which Adams said was worthy of teenagers but not elected councillors. Fair play to Adams, he has nothing to lose by standing against such crude tactics.

  10. Comment on 1981 Hunger Strike: Continued Coverage
    on 1 October 2009 at 4:55 am

!”The focus is not on Sinn Fein but rather on Adams and his think tank who by-passes the army council and SF leadership who were also kept in the dark which is obvious from O’Bradaigh’s statement. It was they who rejected the prison IRA’s acceptance of the offer so why shouldn’t the focus be on them as they are the only people who can answer why.”

Well said. I wish it were different but wishing doesn’t make it so. We cannot build good on rottenness, we must never place our trust in liars.
