  1. Comment on Kane resignation letter, and Trimble’s emails…

Correct me if i’m wrong but isnt this the same Vanguard that used the term liquidation in reference to Republicans /Nationalists at that time. Hardly the basis for voluntary coalition.

  2. Comment on Sinn Fein about to breach the DUP’s defences?
    on 1 February 2010 at 4:16 pm

SF may or may not be about to breach the DUP’S defences. Gerry Adams and Martin McGuiness should remember that when making concessions on parading that unlike them who live in safe nationalist/republican areas,a lot of us do not. On this basis I would hope that they have acheived concrete assurances on the annual flying of flags and solved the general sectarian abuse that Nationalists, Republicans and those with no political leanings have to put up with year after year. The level of this abuse where I live in the Finaghy area of Belfast for example is nothing short of a disgrace. It impacts on the lives of many residents and business owners simply to pander to the desire of a small number of sectarian neanderthal thugs. I am not against unionism and the Loyal Orders celebrating their culture but they should do it in a responsible and respectful manner. Flags should be allowed to be flown for one week around the 12th July with a reduction in the numbers flown and none to be flown in areas that are designated business areas.

  3. Comment on Unionist difficulties…
    on 31 January 2010 at 11:25 pm

Why would anyone be suprised at the way Reg is ruining the UUP? He specialises in incompetency. One need only look at the shambles he has made of Further Education. BMC’S move to Titanic Quarter to fulfil Reg’s constituency needs, not to mention his desire to have this as his political legacy will like most other things he has been associated with, end in disaster. Unionists should realise that any association with the Conservative party from the Home Rule period to the present has never worked out the way that they thought it would.

  4. Comment on “…republicans are in a rather worse position than the SDLP”
    on 29 January 2010 at 3:00 pm

Paisley used to remind everyone that it was always about the ‘majority of the majority’. Most unionists remain locked into that model. In relation to the SDLP,the new leader whoever that may be, will oversee its disintegration. For SF, they have some serious thinking to do on future strategy and the goals that can realistically be achieved.

you are forgetting that even after an election you could not be certain that you would ever have an assembly again. Joint Authority may well become the preferred option for many on the nationalist side. Would that be any worse than the circus that is hopefully due to leave town.

  6. Comment on As unionist plans for consolidation, nationalism drifts towards complacency…
    on 25 January 2010 at 10:53 pm

With the SDLP in terminal decline which will increase in pace with the election of their new leader whichever one it is, coupled with the growth of the TUV, a SF first minister looks more likely.
