Comment on Hillsborough Agreement: some TUVish thoughts; and blackadder
on 8 February 2010 at 9:58 pm
Well, one thing is for sure after these two last weeks is that any more boasting by DUP about leading SF a merry dance up at Stormont is put to rest finally. What has happened after all the stalling is that Gerry Adams [as the referee] has metaphorically summoned Peter Robinson to the centre of the pitch and pointed at the spot labelledl P&J, and told him to deliver. the linesmen, [Woodward and Martin has taken robbo to the side and explained about Plan B and sent him out to bat. Last Friday was payday for DUP.
What have they to show for three years of messing about? the shrine at the Maze is still on the listed site papers and Iris has done her bit to help SF. They should build a statue at the maze of Iris in honour of services to shinners.

Comment on The (er, another) Hillsborough Agreement…

If Robinson is going to convince the 14 DUP dissidents to vote with him on march P&J transfer, he’ll have to get them to swallow a very tall tale, that is, that the abolition of the Parades commision amounts to the free run on all contentious parade routes for the OO and other orders. All they’re actually goiung to get in the September bill is even more formal hurdles in legislation to hamper the free run the wanted the OO to have. The hardliners in the DUP won’t accept that particular tall story.

driftwood [9] you’re right, driftwood. I had forgotten about the letters of resignation, So, it’s the British Govt who took PR aside to remind him of what Plan B was about. And the DUP needn’t think the tories would act any differently. The Duppers have no friends anywhere now. Belligerence with SF has been shown not to work.

ABC123 [23] So this is the thanks the DUP got from Brown for the 42 day detention. We needn’t worry then about DUP having an influence in the event of a hung parliament. Robbo must have told the 14 dissidents that a wholesale exodus to the TUV would look a bit tawdry to the voters which is why they’ve all signed up to this, or at least have kept their heads down. Nigel dodds absent from peter’s side this morning. tut, tut.

Comment on Unionism under the DUP: Firmer, bolder but still much too short sighted…
on 4 February 2010 at 10:11 pm
David Vance msg 10
Your theory only works as long as you leave out any historical fsacts that don’t suit your bias. such as the fact that nats voted only for SDLP up until the late 80s and unionists refused to recognise that mandate, in the belief the british would secure a one sided set up to go on with but the british govt rejected that constirtutional convention report because unionists were only suggesting another Stormont. So nationalists then started voting SF. It wouldn’t help your post to include those stubborn facts in it. The days of unionist majority rule are over DV. so get over it.

JoeCanuck Msg2 It would all the better from a nationalist standpoint were the DUP to be wiped out while it’s creator was still alive to see it for himself. The Policing and Justice powers WILL be brought here either from the deal now on offer, or if that falls, then after the assembly election that would result. So the balance of the three year term of this assembly is; DUP decided not to try to advance unionist cause, knowing it could be vetoed, so they decided on a strategy of denying SF at everything the shinners wanted, but now the smoke has cleared, all they were doing was delaying, which, whatever they claim, is not prevention. Now the DUP have nothing to show for their 3 years, and not likely to get a second bite at it any time soon. While the SF agenda is alive and well, and might even eat further into the SDLP vote since that party’s time has run it’s course.

Comment on Identifying the 14 ahead of an apostolic departure?

FHJ msg 9. Wee Jeffrey will be negociating his return to UUP [maybe that explains the long absence from airwaves recently. but i’d say they’ll prevent that. they’re not total fools, are they?

Garza [1] You can tell Sinn Fein have judged it correctly by not walking out yet, by the two clearly rattled DUP men on nolan yesterday and today. Campbell really must be losing it to have allowed nolan to lure him into refusing about ten times the same question. I know he’s not the sharpest knife in the DUP drawer but this morning’s effort was priceless, and it’s thanks to the shinners that the Duppers are tearing away at the seams in this fashion now.

Comment on J&P brought down to earth
on 1 February 2010 at 11:21 pm
Is the ‘further clarification’ required by elements in the DUP, an attempt to push the talks process beyond the point where it would be practical in the commons to transfer P&J before the westminster election? If so, surely this is playing chicken with the govts as well as SF. Is Robbo in control of these blockers, and therefore complicit in the stunt? This could be genuine attempt to clarify matters, but who will believe it after what the DUP have been at up till now.

Comment on Sinn Fein about to breach the DUP’s defences?

lamhdearg [8] ‘….we’ll be back here talking about the same **** in ten year’s time.’
Whatever has been agreed now, LD, we’ll be back in talks just after the next assembly elections next year regardless, because during the next assembly term, SF will be eligible [as will DUP for the Justice ministry chief post, before nominations to executive. The current deal btwn SF and DUP on standing aside runs out in 2012.
