“There is no blockage in the Carrick direction in the mornings or during the day, at least not that I’ve seen whin my daily commute out of Whiteabbey for the past five years.”
If you leave Whiteabbey and head into Belfast, what would you know about traffic congestion from Loughshore as far as the Station Road, Greenisland from 3 pm onwards?
Is it any wonder Carrickfergus is such a hole? Who in their right mind would invest there (apart from Lidl) with the Greenisland bottleneck creating such traffic chaos day and daily.
Interesting revelation.
Seem to recall, a fortnight ago, my complaints about this failure to build 1 mile of road being dismissed as ‘absolutely moronic’ by another contributor.
Now it emerges £16m has already been wasted to leave the route littered with abandoned homes. Even more ridiculously, a new development of houses leading on to the Shore Road was given the go ahead, which undoubtedly (if they ever sell) will lead to more congestion on the Shore Rd, already at snail’s pace from early morning and mid-afternoon.
What an absolute shambles by all concerned…local politicans, the MP and the woeful minister.
“Which minister confirmed that funding was available ? I’d be interested to read the wording they used.
This is seems self-evidently untrue given that, er, the money isn’t in place”
..but was in place.
(If I get permission to post detail of correspondence, I will)

The decision and approval of the final chosen scheme was made years back…..and funding was in place according to each of the Ministers in charge.
Now, when the scheme should be commencing, it isnt.
They’ve failed miserably to improve a 1mile stretch of road.
..and the A2 Shore Road improvement project has been kicked back to 2015, at least. 10 years of devolved Government and between the lot of them they cant improve a 1 mile stretch of road.
So, the passport is ok to entice young Northern Irish Roman Catholic footballers to join the FAi teams, but allowing these self-same cherished citizens of the nation to have a vote…no chance, your passport only gets you so far.

Ed Moloney’s Voices from the Grave: Two Men’s War in Ireland has received considerable attention in the press and in the public realm since its publication earlier this year. Although the book relates the experiences of the Provisional IRA’s Brendan Hughes and the PUP/UVF’s David Ervine, much of the discussion has focused on Hughes’ stories [...] read our review »
The words of Brian O’Nolan, variously Brian Ó Nualláin, Myles na gCopaleen, Myles na Gopaleen and, of course, Flann O’Brien. That O’Nolan was referencing his own dissolute student days at UCD only mildly distracts from the prophetic undertone of his words: I paid no attention whatsoever to books or study and regarded lectures as a [...] read our review »
John Laird (Lord Laird of Artigarvan) is unionism’s jester. His memoir A Struggle To Be Heard ” by a True Ulster Liberal” (from Slugger’s shop on Amazon here) might serve more as a heavy stocking filler than anybody’s idea of a main present. In it he wears the masks of comedy and tragedy to turn the [...] read our review »
