A fair outcome is the existing situation. I.e. prime ministerial debates for those competing to become prime minister. Regional debates for regional parties. If your scope isn’t national, you don’t take place in a national debate. It’s very simple.
From the outset the BT has not been mentioned. This was not a deal for the whole UK group, it was for two newspapers. You appear to be banging on about this with no justification. Both parties’ statements carry no mention of the BT.
Minor point though Mick – not wishing to deny Chekov his reputation for scooptastic blogging, but I’m sure he’ll readily agree that it was Ivor Whitten at Hand of History wot done it.
Absolutely Bobballs. As indicated by ‘Hand of History reports’ and ‘you can delve into… on Ivor’s blog’. Which I recommend you all do.
So much for Conall’s new politics. There’s barely a mention for Unionism beyond the familiar derogatory remarks. Perhaps he needs to pay more attention to Strand 3 of the 1998 Agreement and to that strand of Connollyism which helped feed the mob confrontation of the 1960s.
In fairness, going again the prevailing message at such a conference and declaring the IRA’s ‘war’ ‘dirty and futile’ showed some backbone.
They could’ve come up with this in half a day. The important stuff is clearly underhand, behind the scenes deals yet again. I particularly like the working group on executive function. Well that’s alright then …
If you want to get a flavour of the proceedings at the Political Studies Association conference on its opening day, then the Storify collation below will bring you some of the images, tweets and sounds of the day. Particular highlights included: the Opening Plenary with David Blunkett, Peter Riddell and Matthew Flinders; and the late [...] read our review »
Somehow I escaped reading this essential school text, with its story of racism in 1930s American South. Living in Northern Ireland, I draw parallels with sectarianism, with its similar bigotry and prejudice. To Kill a Mockingbird was part of a Unite Against Hate campaign event at Parliament Buildings in Northern Ireland, which I’ve written [...] read our review »
Not according to metallurgists Tim Foecke and Jennifer Hooper McCarty whose research has suggested that dodgy Harland and Wolff rivets were at fault for allowing the Titanic’s hull to be ripped apart by the pressure of the iceberg impact. With six of the hull’s chambers exposed to the Atlantic waters, the “unsinkable” ship lasted less [...] read our review »

Life is binary and it can be mightily difficult to make it converge.

Every fecking post the man writes. Seriously! Is it just me? It’s like dipping your head in a vat of alphabet spaghetti.

When I read this this morning I thought it was the best piece that Alex had written for ages. Now it turns out he’s stepping down. Coincidence?
