Comment on Robinson back on the attack with the media…
on 20 April 2010 at 2:54 am
That’s hardly an answer Harry J. Why would any incoming Govt grant the DUP demand to cut corportion tax and let England, Scotland and Wales pick up the tab?
Mind you Robinson and Wilson taking differing views on this.
DUP are economically illiterate – apart from dealing in property it seems

Is the DUP plan to cut VAT on construction to 5% legal under EU law? Even if it was why would any incoming Govt agree to it?
Would the DUP/SF threaten to scream and scream until their sick if they werent given this?
Did the media – esp UTV who gave this policy a bold graphic headline – ask any probing questions?
Did BBC, UTV, News Letter, Belfast Tele and Irish News editors and correspodents turn up? And if so why did they not ask any of these questions?
Are they like their political counter parts Old Ken, et al out of their depth or just past it?

The DUP are oppposed to any increase in National Insurance i.e. they go further than the Tories who only oppose the increase on those earning under £44,000. Did any of the media ask how, given the Tories have faced tough questioning on their plans, how the DUP’s more expensive plans would be afforded?

Did any of the media ask why they thought the next Govt would agree to cut Corporation tax and let the Englsih, Scots and Welsh suffer the cost?

Ooops an entire thread based on a wrong assumption or rather two wrong assumptions.
Adrian Watson was not ‘blocked’ by the Conservatives he was turned down by the entire Joint Committee
Secondly he was not turned down for his views on homosexually – no matter how much it suits him to spin it that way

Comment on NI and Scottish Rights bodies challenge the Conservatives

Think the Conservatives have a reasoanble chance of forming or being part of a UK Govt.
The anti British Ulster nationalist DUP will NEVER to in a UK Govt

Comment on The wee parties won’t weigh in the Westminster balance

Are ‘Ulster first’ parties really unionist?
Agree with Brian that SNP and Plaid Cmyru demands (and expectations) are unrealistic.
Will the media in NI point out that DUP,SDLP manifesto commitments are equally unrealistic wishlists?
For example the News Letter gave big coverage to DUP ‘campaign’ to say there will be no Bill of Rights. They failed to point out that the facts are as follows – if Labour wins the GE there will be a Bill of Rights if the Conservatives win there wont be.
DUP? Will not affect this or anything else decided at Westminster.
Truth is that our local parties have been indulged for years with crisis meetings at Downing St.
Like naughty children they repeatedly refuse to tidy their rooms (run the Assembly properly) unless their dysfunctional parents (guardians?) give them their pocket money (concessions)
However we are now in a situation when really there are few things that the DUP or anyone else can create crises about.
The local parties will be faced with managing an Assembly on a decreasing budget and a UK Govt (regardless of its colour) increasingly unwilling to pander to their whinging

Comment on The Tories in Ulster and the social policy trap..
on 2 April 2010 at 2:38 am
—Lady Hermon opted out;
—Adrian Watson declared himself “totally against” the UCUNF alliance;
—Alan McFarland MLA resigned from the Ulster Unionist Party.
Truely a good week for the Conservatives
BTW Mr Watson is wrong when he says the word Ulster doesnt feature in the literature.

He may be privately educated and a former Army officer but seems he was never thought loyalty.
Resigning effectively during an election campaign is disgraceful
