Poor old Peter Brooke. Gaybo pushed and goaded him into that performance on the Late Late. Disaster.

I’m reasonably certain that Picasso didn’t paint the Mona Lisa.

  3. Comment on Michael D, the Government candidate: entitlement and #aras11.

Rory, Michael D. Higgins has had a long public life. Plenty of time under media scrutiny has passed. Is there some impropriety or dishonour ins his career that you’d like there to be more scrutiny of? What is it that he’s getting a “free ride” on? Him being short, by the way, is not a criticism, but if that’s the best his sneering detractors can do then that says a lot for him, I’d say.

Have you considered that maybe Michael D is being given a “free ride” is because he hasn’t exhibited any the failings, errors of judgement, or utterly tainted histories that the other six have? Maybe he’s actually winning people’s support on some sort of merit? For instance, if the “political mainstream” is anointing anyone, wouldn’t it be the candidate of the dominant party who has the endorsement of a popular Taoiseach? No?

  5. Comment on Protestant and Dissenter: the nonsense of Sinn Fein’s outreach
    on 14 September 2011 at 11:54 pm

So, Turgon actually doesn’t believe in non-Christians! Remarkable. There are only Protestants and Catholics. Even the 17th Century statements of Wolfe Tone are too progressive and inclusive for Turgon. Everyone must be a Protestant or a Catholic and any *suggestion* otherwise will be met with yet another semi-literate 5,000 word salad of bigotry.

Grow up and join the 21st Century, Turgon. And try to edit yourself, would you? It is always the case that what you’re trying to say could be expressed in a tenth the space you take. Why do you insist on waffling on and on and on and on and on and on instead of trying to express yourself clearly and concisely?

  6. Comment on David Latimer’s speech: if an opportunity; one he missed completely

Ah, Norn Iron, where millions of words must be spent talking about a speech at a political party conference.

  7. Comment on Euro crisis: “The euro area crisis has reached end game…”
    on 3 August 2011 at 8:09 pm

“As the crisis goes critical”, as crises are wont to do.

After three years of this crisis, how much of a crisis can it be? Isn’t it the new normal at this point?

  8. Comment on A fundie holiday
    on 2 August 2011 at 11:36 pm

Is there any *particular* reason Turgon is encouraged to post endless, rambling articles about his summer holidays and so on? No-one else does so, that isn’t what this blog is normally about, and it’s not as if he can’t get his own personal blog at no cost.

It’s true. The real world is a very uninviting place for Bible believers.

  10. Comment on Sectarian intimidation, Limavady style
    on 2 May 2011 at 12:43 am

Seems pretty harmless to me as far as “intimidation” goes. Certainly it speaks to a failure of empathy and historical perspective to say “for sheer brazen sectarian intimidation it’s hard to beat erecting a Union flag above a Sinn Fein office.” This is a rag-week style prank compared to the status quo ante.
