Comment on The red tide returns – Labour win big in Wales.
on 6 May 2012 at 2:07 pm
Funny how commentators so loudly decry low turn-out when their side does badly. Then there’s the other mantra: that Labour isn’t doing as well as Wee Willie Hague’s Tories did in 2000 or whenever — yet turn-out in 2000 was lower than this week.
That contradicts you much more that the unnamed out criers

Comment on de Brun resigns as MEP

This is fascinating,,, I suppose it’ll be a Sinn Fein reshuffle.
Europe will be a nice prize for whoever is selected, all that really matter is that there’s a little name recognition come election time.
But I can’t help thinking that for all practical purposes, it’s a bit of a cul-de-sac as far as one’s career goes (not that any Shinners are there for self interest). I’d therefore rule out Murphy or Gildernew.
As a hunch I suspect it will be used to solve the candidate problems for SF in Tyrone and County Londonderry, although who gets it is beyond me. Anderson or O’Neill seem likely candidates, but wouldn’t rule out Ruane.

Comment on Coalition trials and tribulations over budget

This article more than any other highlights Slugger’s present problem.
It is easily the most interesting, and most relevant blog of the last few days, and yet because it’s London politics, there is absolutely no discussion (save for Malcolm Redfellow’s numerous monologues).
In future Turgon, stick to covering obscure outbursts in the Dail, that will generate hits.

Comment on Nesbitt to take ministerial role for the UUP…

has he got a low opinion of his new job
DRD minister or party leader?

Comment on Nesbitt’s task is to discover a real purpose for the UUP. But will they let him?
on 2 April 2012 at 11:07 am
Parachuting or switching seats only ever appears to be important when discussing someone who we dislike regardless.
For example:
Comerade Stalin hates the UUP: Reg’s South Antrim Candidacy was disgraceful.
Framer doesn’t like DUP: Sammy Wilson’s move to East Antrim was disgraceful.
Hope this clears things up.

It looks pathetic for the leader to join the executive.

Comment on Bradford West voters show their respect for Labour’s safe seat and vote in George Galloway as MP
on 30 March 2012 at 8:30 pm
There won’t be an army of Galloway’s marching on parliament at the next election. It’s like Glasgow East: a classic Labour safe seat-cum-‘rotten borough’ taken for granted (and ignored) for so long that the ruling party’s apparatus had atrophied. Like John Mason in Glasgow East, Galloway won’t last long.
I’m not convinced I accept that analysis.

Comment on Without Opposition, “the UUP remains trapped, un-influential and jointly culpable…”

So are we to expect you back as a paid up member of APNI, or are you destined to sit at a keyboard bigging them up until such times as you’ve atoned for your sins of running away when a better offer popped up elsewhere?
