Radical Independence & The Jamaican, Ugandan & Pakistani UKIP candidates
Tweet With all the furore over the Radical Independence protest at the UKIP press conference in Edinburgh (ahead of the Aberdeen Donside Scottish by-election on June 20) I couldn`t help but notice the rather vociferous use of the words Nazi, Racist, Bigot, Scum & Fascist aimed at Nigel Farage. The Belfast News Letter website has a [...] more »
British & Irish flags at new Korean War Memorial for Ulster troops
Tweet Royal Irish Regiment, Royal Ulster Rifles Association, Royal British Legion and The Irish Association of Korea working in cooperation with the Irish Embassy and the Somme Association were in South Korea recently to unveil a new memorial to Irish Veterans (largely from the British Army but also US & Commonwealth forces) of the 1951 [...] more »
Sinn Fein undermining the sanctity of marriage
Tweet A sign of the times. Sinn Fein under attack…from Catholic Priests. “While Sinn Féin support remains high in the Catholic community, they do not, however, have the support of Catholics who are committed to the cause of life and marriage….Catholics understand therefore, that a vote for Sinn Féin is a vote for the weakening [...] more »
Futile Border Poll campaign to launch
Tweet What is presumably a Sinn Fein border poll initiative is to launch on Friday with mock polls planned for Crossmaglen and Creggan Upper (in County Louth) We are officially launching our campaign on Friday – come along if you’re available! twitter.com/UnitedIreland/… — United Ireland(@UnitedIreland) April 28, 2013 Presumably taking a leaf out of the [...] more »
If you live in a glass house, don`t throw stones…at UKIP
Tweet Much ado about Ken Clarke`s comments on `UKIP clowns, closet racists and fruitcakes` over the weekend. It is amazing however what turns up when you Google various configurations of the words Labour, Tory, racist, nazi & BNP. For example, BNP leader Nick Griffin’s father was a Welsh Tory aide to Ian Duncan Smith in 2001, [...] more »
Health Protection Agency report backs up Edwin Poots
Tweet Last year there was some controversy over Northern Ireland Health Minister Edwin Poots refusing to lift the permanent ban on men who engage in gay sex from giving blood. Many wanted NI to come into line with the rest of the UK which insists the donor must not have had gay sex within the [...] more »
Orangeman`s take on call for a border poll
Tweet So Gerry Adams finally launched Sinn Fein`s border poll campaign at the weekend after rallying support from Irish-Americans last year. Tánaiste Eamonn Gilmore responded saying it was `unwise and ill timed`. The Ulster Unionists & Alliance are against the idea (despite David Trimble previously advocating one in 2003, which Alliance opposed). The SDLP seem to be [...] more »
UUP Leader calling for parents that send children to faith schools to pay twice?
Tweet Ulster Unionist leader Mike Nesbitt has said that faith schools should be privately funded and that tax payers should only fund one system. He made his statements whilst addressing a UUP conference on poverty. State funding for Catholic Schools was introduced by UUP prime minister of Northern Ireland, Terence O’Neill, (initially 80% funding but eventually 100%) [...] more »
No condemnation of Roman Catholic Church or medical opinion but plenty for `homophobic Unionists`
Tweet This week has seen Nationalist politicians falling over themselves to condemn Ulster Unionist peer Ken Maginnis and DUP Health Minister Edwin Poots as homophobic bigots. Maginnis on the Nolan show opposed gay-marriage and referred to homosexuality as deviant behaviour although he tempered his argument by saying “If my next-door neighbour is homosexual, I will treat [...] more »
Not just Belfast without water
Tweet Seems to be a lot of news on the lack of water in the City but very little mention of rural problems. Personally here in the backwaters outside Coagh in rural Tyrone (near Cookstown), we have been without running water for over a week. The problem seemingly being frozen underground pipes outside the property [...] more »

Malcolm – the leaked BNP membership list from a few years ago had dozens of Labour, tory, Lib Dem and Green Party supporters names on it. Nick Griffin`s father campaigned for Iain Duncan Smith a decade ago (he was a life long Tory but supported forced repatriation), ex BNP are welcomed to Labour, Labour peer Lord Ahmed has just resigned for anti Semitism…

Eamon-iak – the tri-colour is reported as having been flown in one of the links above that I posted. – Have seen pics online of troops in Afghanistan or Iraq with Red Hand of Ulster, Union and Tri-colour being displayed by the troops (not official flown) and royal British Legion and Irish Defence Froces hold joint remembranve services both sides of the border where Union and Tri-colour flags are carried.

BarneyT -this post has nothing to do with the Belfast Cenotaph flag issue. I personally agree with the Royal British Legion position and to me smacked of a cheap stunt by DUP on BCC.

Am Ghobsmacht – Have seen the Tri-colour flown or on display rather by RIR soldiers presumably from the South and there are a couple of annual Royal British Legion commemorations either side of the border where it is flown usually as Irish Defence Forces are present at the (sometimes joint) remembrance service.

I forgot to mention new legislation for 3 parent IVF techniques which might well complicate matters of family / marriage http://www.channel4.com/news/ivf-dna-three-person-baby-plans-given-go-ahead

Gaygael & Mister Joe – blood from the rest of the UK doesn’t come from MSM sources since the rules state ban on donor if they have had gay sex in the last 12 months – you do have a point regarding promiscuity in heterosexuals but presumably scientists take all that into account when determining the high risk groups

I would agree with Nicholas Whyte – the SNP in Scotland are under the same pressure to define an Independent Scotland which has now become rather murky with a joint Monarch, joint currency etc post `independence`

And of course how would unification resolve the issue of divided communities in NI any better than now?

A simple look at the Scottish governments Scots Language website or the @100wordsABDN 100 Doric words Twitter account squashes all notion that it is invented – Scots and Ulster-Scots are pretty much the same although there is a little bit of English crashing with Irish thrown into the mix too.

I see the Irish News front page runs with the Fermanagh signs being ripped down. Have to wonder if Phil Flanagan retweeting a picture of the sign lying in a field with the comment `strong winds` is befitting an MLA?
