Ireland has proved itself on the world cricket stage. They no longer make up the numbers but give sound competition to the bigger more established cricket countries. Indeed, Ireland is in tenth place above Zimbabwe in the world rankings so should be included in the teams to compete in the next World Cup.
How will cricket become a true world sport if the emerging cricket nations are strangled at birth. The best Irish players will decamp to play for England (and who could blame them) if this outrageous change is allowed to take place. A better number of teams would be twelve to take part in the next world cup.
So viewers in the Republic will get free to air BBC but viewer in the rest of the UK will not get free to air RTE. What a pity – it might educate the Btits about the island next door.
