West Tyrone’s independent MLA Dr Kieran Deeny may have decided to step down from the Assembly, but I can reveal that there will be at least one independent candidate standing in the constituency. Churnalism revisited
I believe I’ll live to regret this, but to return to a topic touched on at the last picamp in Belfast. The Guardian reports on the new venture by the Media Standards Trust. Churnalism.com bills itself as a press release detector, allowing the user to paste an online sourced news story into a text box for cross [...] more »
RTE cuts live coverage of bailout
Last night, during one of the most significant press conferences in the history of the Irish State, while Brian Cowen and Brian Lenihan officially announced the detail of the bailout, predictably enough the Irish twitter stream erupted like nothing I’ve seen before. The near homogeneous fury was of course channelled in the direction of Brian Cowen et [...] more »

A number of news websites have picked up on Lebanese newspaper al-Mustaqbal’s claim that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants to travel to Gaza himself to break Israel’s blockade the Palestinian territory. You find it it cynical to speculate that in the search for what he calls “effective mainstream, non-sectarian and responsible politics”, Parsley may re-consider re-joining the cross-community party of which his spouse is a member?

Kieran would make no beans about the fact that he’s a ‘part-time’ MLA. That certainly opens him up to attack and scrutiny, but I’m still pretty sure he’s attending the health committee at least.
But then absenteeism has never put off the majority of voters in the west before.

At least the Irish News made some effort to actually interview someone from OnH, unlike some of the Sunday rag ‘journalists’ who simply trawl republican forums and then quote “well-placed republican sources”.
From talking to some of journalists I know who’ve had face to face contact with dissidents, the interactions have been pythonesque to say the least. The well isn’t exactly deep.

“Carson having a GAA Trophy called after him…..”
Once again, this trophy has nothing to do with the GAA.
The same way a penalty competition organised in the Stormont green by an MLA would have nothing to do with the IFA.

Mairtin, surely if GARC are dedicated to peaceful protest as you say, they might want to rethink a poster that asserts: “No parade, no violence”
If you are intent on another protest and are intent that it remain peaceful, surely you will take responsibility for stewarding the crowds of children who congregate afterwards to riot and steal/burn out resident’s cars.
If GARC are representative of Ardoyne’s residents, this shouldn’t be a problem.

The so called ‘True IRA’, as it’s known in the show have been apparently supplying most of California with Russian AK47s for years…
Indulge in SOA now and again, but some of THE worst Oirish accents ever to grace the screen.

I thought Stormont was the seat of power for Northern Ireland, not just East Belfast. I also thought the days of “Protestant Parliament for a protestant people” were gone?
Sure haven’t they had everything from cricket to the Eagles in the grounds?
The Sinn Fein PR machine is on the hill most days of the week, don’t see the difference in it moving outside and holding a hurl.
