“This Is the New PSNI – Just the Same as the RUC”

The éirígí website has provided footage of the RUC/PSNI house raid believed to have lead to the disturbances in Craigavon.

“I was outside the family home when the raid began and I was inside immediately afterwards speaking with the family, who are close friends of mine. The reality of the RUC–PSNI was here for all to see in broad daylight and the residents of this estate remain justifiably suspicious of the force”

ADDS: This may inform some of the discussion here on how the disturbance in Craigavon started and dispel some of the claims on what/who initiated the violence.

  1. They should all be jailed. Terrorists.

  2. After getting a new uniform and a new name and all?  Shame they’re still the same!  I’m err really surprised by this !

  3. I see the BBC are still trailing the 10.30pm news on violence instigated by ‘dissident’ republicans in Craigavon. Seems éirígí scooped them or the truth about how the trouble started is being studiously ignored.

  4. was this before or after nationalists fired on police?

    Posted by  on Aug 27, 2008 @ 09:11 PM
  5. Yes apparently the police didn’t have an appointment requested in writing asking everyone nicely would they mind if they called round for a cup of tea and a chat and would they mind having all their illegal weapons, bomb making equipment and improvised rocket launchers (especially any semtex well past its best before date) neatly laid out on the kitchen table ready for seizure.

Apparently if you are raided by the police you are entitled to have a pop at them with an armalite so all child pornographers nervously waiting for Operation Ore to get your length arm yourselves to the teeth, wait for the Colonialists to arrive, get out your automatic rifle and wait for the statement of support from eirigi....no actual evidence of brutality required. Also arm all the local tweenagers with petrol bombs blast boms and hijack a few cars and make sure at least one is innocently eating a packet of crisps and that too will be ok.

  6. Pretty standard stuff for a police raid.

  7. I must say it looks like a very professional raid.

    Posted by  on Aug 27, 2008 @ 09:16 PM
  8. FD,

Indeed. Those police forces seemed quite proud of their actions. Until I posted this video the reports on yesterday’s violence were completely lacking in any mention of the RUC cordoning off an estate and busting into a house in numbers etc. etc.

    Fine to legitimise it now.

I wonder why it wasn’t mentioned before. Especially not by the PSNI/RUC still trailing this via the BBC as an incident from nowhere instigated by ‘dissidents’.

That is just a plain and simple lie as we now see in glorious Youtube.

  9. ...though to be honest my criticism would be they need to get the door down more quickly as the criminals could be hotfooting it out the back door or flushing the drugs down the toilet. Time is of the essence in these raids, surely?

  10. Nationalists complain of police doing their duty,,SHOCK!

    Posted by  on Aug 27, 2008 @ 09:23 PM
  11. What about the coded bomb warnings that the media were reporting before even the raid Mark - they are conspicuous by their absence from your report or the website? A little hypocritical wouldn’t you say?

    Posted by  on Aug 27, 2008 @ 09:24 PM
  12. Oh, the brutality!!!!  Give me a break.

In all seriousness, if the search was important enough for them to have to break in, why would they go about it so slowly?  If whatever was allegedly in that house was serious enough they should have had a battering ram with them and after giving 1 minute to open the door they should have busted in quickly.  They look like a bunch of novices.

    Posted by  on Aug 27, 2008 @ 09:27 PM
  13. Quite simple: if they didn’t and haven’t told you about this while being all over the media - what else have they omitted from their reports to the media so far?

Seems a bigish thing to miss. No? You’d forget about sending a large number of men in riot gear to shut down and estate and bust into a house when talking about the day’s events?

    Catch a grip.

  14. Also, did you guys read the Erigi article on this?

It seems like the obvious thing to do when a police force is outside your house is to let them in???

Granted, I did not grow up in province where the police colluded with terrorist thugs.

  15. MM

“Until I posted this video the reports on yesterday’s violence were completely lacking in any mention of the RUC cordoning off an estate and busting into a house in numbers etc. etc.”

And? so what? The footage shows a groups of peelers standing about while one of their number uses a truncheon on a door to gain entry to a house.  Big deal.  No brutality involved.

A rational and proportional response such a raid is not a day of rioting, stealing and burning the cars (of whom I can only presume are local residents or unlikely joe who was passing by) culminating with attempted murder.

Posted by Earnan on Aug 27, 2008 @ 10:31 PM

if you grew up in ireland or USA then your countries funded the terrorists thugs who murdered police officers as well as other innocent men, women and children

    Posted by  on Aug 27, 2008 @ 09:45 PM
  17. I looked at that thinking initially it was going to be rather violent with the door broken down, and people dragged from the home, women and children crying, men brutally beaten etc....as we have seen before!

But instead we get a bunch of PC plods in Star Wars costumes standing round while one tries to break a glass panelled door in with a truncheon, while ‘salt of the earth’ chavs heckle them. It wasn’t that professional really, as a battering ram should have been used. Afterall it is the police, and the PSNI acted here as most police forces would (including the Gardai) in democracies around the world. The old RUC/B Specials were pure brutality compared to this!

  18. FD,

It is simple. If you are not reporting or disseminating the whole truth, you are not reporting the truth

Slugger has dispelled a lie about ‘dissidents’ orchestrating attacks from nowhere and given the full story, with video, not reported elsewhere.

Now we could or should be able to discuss the entirety of yesterday’s events without a very clear RUC/PSNI gloss willingly carried by the MSM.

    Posted by  on Aug 27, 2008 @ 09:54 PM
  19. ...just to add, this eirigi outfit are just trying to stir the shit!

    Posted by  on Aug 27, 2008 @ 09:54 PM
  20. Same IRA /same PROVO IRA

    Mark McGregor.
Unfortunately the actions we have witnessed throughout Northern Ireland recently are the same actions of the same old IRA/PROVO IRA dressed up in new garb (allegedly Dissidents). After 40 years they are experts at shooting, bombing, high jacking, burning and everything else they can throw at us, should we be so surprised.  Of course it is not their fault, nothing is ever their fault they are goaded into doing these actions by the everyone including the PSNI - well who they think they are kidding.

Mark McGregor stop making excuses for wanton destruction and downright violence which will if not stopped end up with someone losing their life.

  21. Observer, what “country” did you grow up in? (snigger)

    Posted by  on Aug 27, 2008 @ 09:55 PM
  22. Mark even the Shinners (implacable enemies I know) have said publicly that dissidents in the area have been actively planning this for 2 weeks. So why were the Police searching Mark? And why didn’t the householder open the door?

And wasn’t it great to see the upstanding citizenry of Craigavon out in force. Not the cry of ‘I say officer, please stop that we have a key’. Instead we had ‘ Get the fucking cameras out’ .

Anyway some of the shower outside certainly looked as though they could do with some decent policing. I was shocked that some of the peelers simply didn’t lay about them with those batons. A dog biting the backside out of some of their tracksuit bottoms would have been even more entertaining.

Is this the best Eirigi/ Eidjits can do?

    Posted by  on Aug 27, 2008 @ 09:56 PM
  23. Raid then riot or riot then raid? The sound of the helicopter in the background rather gives the game away.

    Posted by  on Aug 27, 2008 @ 10:00 PM
  24. Christ, by the looks of some of the locals the police shoulda brought the water cannon, and a large supply of soap.

  25. “Slugger has dispelled a lie about ‘dissidents’ orchestrating attacks from nowhere and given the full story, with video, not reported elsewhere.”

    Mark

That’s not factually accurate.  Part of this particular footage, with accompanying claims of police brutality, was broadcast by UTV at 6pm yesterday.  They placed it after the arrest of a 31 year old for hijacking.  You don’t appear to have a time, in the sequence of events, for this raid.
