“The organisation will not tolerate decommissioning especially for £1.2m”
Regular commenter joeCanuck emailed to remind me that the story of the not-so-good-after-all UDA hasn’t gone away.. as evidenced by this report in the Belfast Telegraph on Thursday - and Brian Rowan has his own analysis of his report here. The substance of the report is the un-asked-for advice to the Social Development Minister - “The UPRG can only tell her so much. She could go straight to the leadership.” - and to the Chief Constable, Hugh Orde - “If he knows who they are [that criminal element], then he should remove them, and if he doesn’t know who they are, then he shouldn’t be saying it.” - from the de facto leader of the UDA, Jackie McDonald. And, I’m sure the Chief Constable will do just that.. after speaking to those who have influence, that is.. and provided it doesn’t interfere with someone else’s Process™.. Adds this UTV report And this report

I believe is was Al Capone who said you could always get more with a kind word and a gun than just a kind word. Guess Jackie-boy and the knuckle-draggers believe that as well.
It sounds a bit like the UPRG spokes-muppets are finding there is a little bit of heat being in the limelights.
Posted by on Aug 25, 2007 @ 03:44 PMBehind the hype and the spin I am hearing that things are far from united in the so called conflict transformation initiative. In fact it has now become common knowledge that d nichol has gone on sick leave due to the constant battling behind the scenes and there are regular arguments between the staff and the main spokesman. Expect fireworks as I am being told that a falling out in a major way is expected very soon.
Posted by on Aug 25, 2007 @ 03:52 PMA disturbing observation there Dread especially as I know from personal experience that more than a few of the UDA higher ups draw inspiration from mafia type movies such as Godfather, Catlito’s Way and Scarface.

Hearing almost exactly the same myself. The little bit extra I’m hearing is that the penny has dropped that a certain person is always at the middle of any row that develops.Hearing as well that when Don Jackie talks about Sir Hugh clearing out the criminals he means all except the black market guys.
Posted by on Aug 25, 2007 @ 05:31 PMIs this blog permanently in wide-screen now or what?
Somebody take the graph off the front page, if that’s what’s causing it, and yellow-card anyone else who posts something that causes me to have to scroll left and right as often as up and down.Posted by on Aug 25, 2007 @ 05:38 PMShore Road Resident,
No probs on my 24-inch iMac running Firefox :0)
Posted by on Aug 25, 2007 @ 05:44 PMAren’t you the clever one?
No offence, but nobody here has an opinion worth hearing that it is also worth the risk of installing Firefox now that Windows XP has been rigged to crash catastophically if you try.I’ll see you when that graph has scolled off the front page.
Posted by on Aug 25, 2007 @ 05:58 PMJusthought,
Indeed. With davy gone it was assumed that things would calm down but I understand that frankie g is not getting it all his own way despite his twisting. I am told that cti staff are disillusioned not by the way things are going with the project but with the man running it.
where is ‘lofty’ to put his own brand of spin on things?

I’m using Firefox and updated it a short while ago and I have automatic updates of XP.
No problems ever!
And i don’t have any graph. Must be your end.Posted by on Aug 25, 2007 @ 06:23 PMOOps, do have debt graph on front page.

“Aren’t you the clever one?”
No, merely rich and possessed of taste. :0)

It’s not the browser causing this, it’s the screen resolution. Up it and it just be fine. Sadly my crappy LCD TV-come-monitor won’t go any higher, and yes, it is fucking annoying.
Firefox is excellent, and much better than IE.
Posted by on Aug 25, 2007 @ 07:22 PMKensei,
Better than Safari too. But ssh, don’t tell Apple.
BTW your namesake appears in a couple of future episodes of “Heroes”. Wonder if Jackie watches that one as well.

Actually I was disappointed that the “Kensei” wasn’t Miyamoto Mushasi, but rather a fictional character. Then again, it is a show about people that fly and stuff and I liked the tale about the dragon.

Depends. Have you fixed the front page yet?
Computer says no.
Posted by on Aug 25, 2007 @ 08:41 PMDawkins: “Huh? Not Spiderman then?”
Nah—that would be the chestnut about great power coming with great responsibility…
Back to the topic at hand, it is naive to think the hoods would surrender their guns for a paltry 1.2 mill… the drugs alon bring in more than that, I would expect. Then there is the extortion and protection rackets…
Posted by on Aug 25, 2007 @ 10:22 PMThe law is soft on criminal conspiracies. The state pretends in vanity that it has no effective competitor, by treating each offender and offense separately. Also, the small businesses they victimise have no voice (or else), so the hoods can be appeased without public protest.
Seems we can have open plan internment where we all have our freedoms curtailed by roving paramilitary guards, or we can have the smaller version where just the paramilitaries are guarded.
How about we split the difference and tag the hoods so we at least know where they are. After all, they know where WE live.
Hoods have the human right to work etc, and they don’t have to show anybody the tag, so no loss of dignity.
Small chip implanted in the skin talking to a mobile phone with a satnav in it. Much less painful than the lead implants they deal in.

Posted by on Aug 26, 2007 @ 03:16 AMSlugger I find the contributors to this full of verbals that pay no relation to the questions posed the original post. Can we please stick to the topic and get some sensible contributions.
As a Unionist the UDA/URPG are one and the same irrespective who is the spokesperson whether it be one from the UDA or one from the URPG. If these organisations want to conform to normal living it does not take millions or an organisation like Farset to do that. The ordinary people who live in these areas which are allegedly to benefit of this money will I suggest see very little difference in their communities the same hoods will be in charge. There are thousands of unionists who live there lives without being paid to be good citizens and I believe that the Minister should tell the UDA/URPG to forget about the money and tell them without equivocation they will not be receiving it. I am also concerned that the people who have been taken on by Farset to run this project and would be administering the money are again the same people who are leading both these organizations how transparent will that be, this saying comes to mind “you scratch my back and I will scratch yours”
Posted by on Aug 26, 2007 @ 08:59 AM“The organisation will not tolerate decommissioning especially for ÂŁ1.2m,” McDonald said. (my emphasis)
Right so, to quote the well known retort, “We have now established that you are a whore, all there is to quarrel about is the price”.
Posted by on Aug 26, 2007 @ 11:33 AMGood one Rory.
Perhaps an update for Danegeld would be Dagreed.
