Sunday Sequence on our changing politics…

Sunday Sequence tomorrow should be worth listening to. Slugger understands that the programme (about 9.15am) will include audio of Eoghan Harris chiding the assembled gathering about one-sided notions of victimhood. Also Malachi O’Doherty looks at how the festival is (or isn’t) changing in the context of NI’s new political dispensation. With the main protagonists in lovein mode, what is there left for the populace to get passionate about? Followed by a live interview with Martin Mansergh.

  1. With the main protagonists in lovein mode, what is there left for the populace to get passionate about?

Really important stuff like The Maze White Shared Future Elephant Stadiu...snoooooore.......

Anyone who was at W. Belfast Talkback (post it up on YouTube NOW!!) was there any mention or debate about it?

  3. This may comes as earth-shattering news O’Neill but in the real world, nobody really gives a sh*t about Norn Iron and the location of their White Elephant

  5. IT’S THE ECONOMY STUPID..........

Thats the rub I think. Global markets do a wobbler and there isn’t even a thread on slugger.

Recessionary pressures on the Republic? Who cares in NI?

Subprime mortgages all across NI? NO thats America?

There were two blogs on house prices on here recently and someone tries to nip the second one on the bud by linking to the first as if saying “We did this one”.

Peace came in a time of prosperity, prosperity did not necessarily follow the peace as we are told by politicians.

Everyday by right some sort of economics thread should be on slugger I reckon. Not as much fun as whataboutery I know but the real issue for NI.

  6. ‘Anyone who was at W. Belfast Talkback (post it up on YouTube NOW!!) was there any mention or debate about it’

    Was never mentioned.

Zero interest im afriad, most football supporters up West are more interested in seeing Ireland take 4 points from our away games in Slovakia & Czech Republic.

  7. OK, thanks Rock.
And hopefully the ROI will be getting 6 points, no?!

  9. what is there left for the populace to get passionate about?

You know, this is a really good question.

Is not the real reason we don’t sort our problems out a genuine fear of ‘normalization’. If we just became ‘normal’, what would we be other than a peripheral region with bad weather?

  10. ND,

“Everyday by right some sort of economics thread should be on slugger I reckon. Not as much fun as whataboutery I know but the real issue for NI.”

    Is that an offer?
