Spinning onward..

Further to the botched attempt by Steorn to demonstrate, in public, their perpetual publicity motion machine they’ve announced today that it’s been postponed indefinitely. Hopefully the people at Kinetica [Have they been told yet? - Ed] got paid in advance.. As for Steorn.. go away and don’t come back until you’ve done the science. Adds Someone should probably tell the Guardian’s TechBlog too.. But Interestingly the cameras are still on..

  1. Pete,

Can’t work out on what basis the company was selling shares. They claimed they would cease further sales during validation but I note they filed a return of allotments this year so clearly they are still distributing them. This thing has investment scam written all over it.

  2. I agree - a complete hoax.

    No backup machines.

No video of it previously working.

No qualms about taking investment money…

  3. And another thing:

If this demo falls over because it was too warm in the room (yeah right) what hope has it of generating power for my phone in my pocket?

I hope the investors weren’t relying on this for their pensions…

  4. Well they are certainly doing an excellent job in generating free publicity.

  5. One has to wonder what Sean McCarthy (the CEO of Steorn) hopes to gain from this.

Even if he gets his mortgage paid for a couple of years before it turns out that there was some fundamental flaw that they, oh-so-unfortunately, overlooked (like the Conservation of Energy principle...) who the hell is going to hire him after this??

Unless he turns himself into an aw-shucks, lovable rogue, media ‘celebrity’ type figure? Can you really make a living from appearances on Big Brother?

Why did I spend so long following this story? I suppose I want to believe a little too much… not as much as those sad investors, though.

  6. Frank, they’re selling shares ? Where ?

Cormac, either these people are complete dolts, or they are geniuses who have come up with an original way to market their PR and web design skills.
