Scotland’s loss…..
Robert Coulter has invited Donald Trump to look to the Antrim coast for his golf course in the wake of his rejection from a Scottish council.

Trump could consult McSweeney on schmoozing the local politicians. Does Ian Ă“g play golf I wonder? He’ll certainly take it up on hearing this news.

Has he considered why or does he just see it as an opportunity to get a press statement out and hopefully meet a celebrity? If there is one thing County Antrim doesn’t need it is is a massive golf complex. Northern Ireland already has at least two first rate golf courses. Assuming that Trump’s main interest is in a links course, could Coulter inform us which part of the Antrim coast he would like to see wrecked?
Jakers, I used to think it was Coulter jnr who was off the wall.

As far as golf is concerned, I subscribe to the “Falling Down” philosophy…

Oh...and in a region of Europe with one of the lowest ratios of play-areas to population, I ESPECIALLY agree with the above.

That’s totally amazing, Raven. Should be room for a few more Botanic Gardens. I spent lots of happy times in there when I was at Queens. (Ignoring other certain queens, of course.)

Was it Mark Twain who described golf as “a good walk spoiled”?
Posted by on Dec 03, 2007 @ 07:16 AMThis golf course idea should probably not be encouraged, not because golf isnt a delightful way to spend the afternoon wandering around the lawn chasing a wee whiteball, but because if it has the trump name attached it will be garish and exclusionary and not at all fitting in with the local atmosphere

Was it not an area outlined as a “special economic development zone” a few years ago? Would the representatives of the good burghers of Larne be as quick as you to turn it away...?
By the way, there was a post a few days back about Craigavon’s Chief Executive woes...that all cleared up down in Larne now, is it...? Just wondering, in an off-topic fashion…

Posted by on Dec 05, 2007 @ 12:18 PMI wish I could but I can only speak for myself and alas there are others obsessed with development for whatever reason,I am not against proper reasonable sustainable development where the need exists,not where it is being done to make a fast buck.Currently the need is for social housing-not holiday homes.
I do not recall any efforts being made to make Larne a special case although it may have happened in Carrick.
That process is on-going.
I can only speak for myself and I will continue to call it as I see it.I will not apologise or try to make excuses for how others make their decisions.Posted by on Dec 05, 2007 @ 12:34 PMPlease go away Mr. Trump, our fair land with its stratospheric economy does not want these jobs and tourism dollars. Nor does it want the publicity jolt that a large development with your name attached to it would bring.
No, our dilapidated grey little towns and villages are just fine: please don’t spoil the character here in the North.
