1. The release of the heat-ray gun (aks Active Denial System) coincides with the release of Justice Weatherup’s report on the Derry/Londonderry name issue, which has ruled that Londonderry it is, and those who do not like it are in for a warm reception.

2. seems like it would be a good anti riot weapon. possibley making plastic bullets redundant.

   just point it at the spide with a petrol bomb and watch him burn ! :)

   Not sure 130 degrees Fahrenheit would be enough to do the job, save perhaps as an unintended side-effect of the spide dropping the bomb at his feet.

5. this weapon is disturbing - is it not saddening that human creativity continues to be invested in inventing new and futuristic ways to hurt each other?

   the references to its possible use as a method of crowd control are even more worrying - the use of this weapon against a peaceful protestor would be in clear breach of the UN Declaration of Universal Human Rights - freedom of expression, freedom from inhumane treatment, the right to liberty, that sort of thing…

   As opposed to say rubber bullets, baton rounds, turncheons and water-cannon?  Its a step forward—a “weapon” that is effective but has an even reduced liklihood of killing than the current alternatives.

   Which is a worthless scrap of paper in most of the UN member nations.  Better this device than, say, the traditional Chinese response to peaceful protest—tanks and machineguns.  If you think this is the greatest threat to the UNDUHR, you’re not paying attention.

7. Petrol starts to boil at just over 100 degrees farenheit. This one should be fun.

   And think of the positive environmental impact if it stops them buring all that petrol in petrol bombs...so this option is actually greener too. Everyone wins.

10. I believe there’s now the possibility that a further person is to be charged in connection with the Raytheon break-in.  Don’t know who it is, but the pamphlet’s saying it’s a woman.
