Police officer shot in Dungannon
The Real IRA have claimed responsibility for the attempted murder of the police officer in Londonderry last week. And UTV are now reporting that another police officer has been shot in Dungannon, County Tyrone. I’ll add more when it’s available. Some more detail here And according the BBC report, he was off-duty at the time of the attack. More here. Although I’m not convinced cancelling the DPP Dungannon Council meeting which was due to be held tonight in Dungannon Town Hall, and where SF were due to nominate their members to the local District Policing Partnership, is an appropriate response. Update the officer is now reported to be in a stable condition. Update 2 A man and woman are being questioned about the shooting.

It’s despicable these RIRA people should get with the times and join the party! The 21st century is the time that catholics and Protestants learn how to work together in our wee country.
Shooting a few parents bringing their kids to school is despicable.
The wider mood of the entire NI community is that the PSNI are acceptable and doing a better job than the RUC.
These throwbacks from the past using yesterdays rhetoric have nothing positive to give society.
They give us hurt, fear, and gnashing of teeth.
We don’t want that
We want Peace.
I don’t know why i’m posting this here it’s not like these neaderthals can read

Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 06:42 PM‘hoping the volunteers involved return safely to base.’
What volunteers would these be - the volunteers of the Flat Earth Society?
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 06:44 PMhow are these real ira guys different from the dead ira guys that gerry adams was singing the praises of yesterday????
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 06:50 PMSomeone has tried to murder a police officer and his/her condition is at present unknown.
To express support or sympathy for this action within minutes of this attack on this site is unacceptable not least because the friends or family of the victim may view this.
Slugger Admin.: Please remove the comment at 1. above and ban this poster.
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 06:52 PMIt makes me sad......
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 06:54 PMDon’t feed the troll. Let the admins deal with it.
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 06:58 PMOhyeah is the worst sort of fellow traveller - the one who doesn’t even have the balls to say what they really think.
Let’s hope the police officer is not seriously hurt and those responsible are brought to justice as quickly as possible. I’m just worried that this might be the start of a campaign and those behind it are less tout-ridden than normal.
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 06:59 PMi have heard that before. about the real and continuity IRA being full of touts. well there cannot be to many touts in them as they now seem to be able to shoots cops whenever they feel like it.
it seems to be mostly, sinn fein that is full of touts

naw, i have probabaly just been reading 1984 too much
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 07:42 PMTo those who insist on the IRA Army council being disbanded, take note.
There has been a modus vivendi between the IRA Army council and security forces that has stifled most dissident republican attacks.
It has been done in such a manner that devices were faulty, attacks foiled without arrests.
Some IRA Council members have now been rewarded with senior politcal positions within Sinn Fein.
Others are left to be hung out to dry.
The point is, it is only with the co-operation of the IRA Army council that dissident attacks like the recent shootings could have been avoided.
Obviously this modus vivendi has been a secret operation but has proved successful.
Still think the IRA Army Council has no role to play in keeping dissident republicans in check ??
Really think security forces can infiltrate small close knit groups ?
In conflicts all around the world, it is the moderate elements that keep extremists in check.
Worth considering that disbanding the IRA Army Council could be a case of shooting ones self in ones foot !!
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 07:43 PMOh Yeah’s comments have been pulled, largely because s/he’s been consistently trolling on the site for weeks. And not because of a single remark.
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 07:52 PMI suppose its out of the question to hyperlink SF’s response to this incident.
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 07:56 PMWell, the single remark was enough to have him/ her pulled on this thread. I think we need to wholeheartedly condemn that kind of attitude, and keep our thoughts with the injured officer. The Officer is the one who demonstrated the bravery and courage of his or her conviction to join the Police Service and demonstrate that law and order is the only option
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 07:59 PMyes yes.
sinn fein condemns the actions of amybody shooting members of the crown forces.
any nationalist with information about should pass it to the crown forces.
these mircogroups are without support
etc etc..
except the hunger strikers who are brave heroes of the revolution who never did nothing to nobody
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 08:02 PMMissFitz,
Hear hear.
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 08:02 PMI disagree Fitzy. Trolling is one thing (and is generally only testable over a series of posts), but I am not about to enforce a consensus on anyone on Slugger.
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 08:09 PMThe wider mood of the entire NI community is that the PSNI are acceptable and doing a better job than the RUC............
Yeah, 16% clear up rate , very acceptable maybe to catholics
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 08:10 PMI trust the IP details of Ohyeah have been passed on to the appropriate authorities? Frankly I feel this is exactly why Slugger needs registration, too many idiots feel they can post all sorts of reactionary bigotry anonymously with little or no consequences. A knock on the door from the PSNI might scare some common sense into them.
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 08:11 PMMaith thú Slugger, a mhic!
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 08:12 PMyes and the PSNI powers of general observation in the portadown area seem to much better than the RUC.
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 08:16 PM......and by the way, I think that there are Fenians contributing to this blog. Perhaps “A knock on the door from the PSNI might scare some common sense into them” Happy days are here again.
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 08:16 PMSo you are saying that if a person breaks the law the police shouldn’t knock on his door?
Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 08:23 PMWell, that’s two brilliant military operations almost totally successful, in only 2 weeks.
Master strokes in the continuing struggle for Irish freedom from the Saxon invaders.Posted by on Nov 12, 2007 @ 08:28 PM
